Hoffman And Other Brewers Need Votes For TYIB Awards
Trevor Hoffman and other Brewer players need some help in the This Year In Baseball Awards. Right now Trevor Hoffman trails other closers such as Mariano Rivera, Joe Nathan, and others. Other Brewers that are also for awards include Prince Fielder, Yovani Gallardo, Ryan Braun, Casey McGehee, and Todd Coffey. You can vote for them at: http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mlb/awards/y2009/tyib/. The Milwaukee Brewers have really kept quiet for the most part of who they might sign to bolster their pitching staff. This kind of worries me as it would not surprise me if the Brewers do not sign anyone. I hope that is [...]
Prince Fielder Finishes Fourth In MVP Race
As expected Albert Pujols won thew National League MVP, but Prince Fielder did come in a respectable fourth place. Personally I thought he should have been a little higher, but when you play for a losing team that is how it works. Fielder had an outstanding season and probably will have many more. He will get an MVP trophy down the line he will just have to wait. Pujols is one of the premier players in the game and his numbers were a lot better than anyone and he deserved the award. Fielder needs to be a more consistent player [...]
Brewers Sign 16 Year Old Shortstop
According to various sources the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms with 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Santo Aybar out of the Dominican Republic. Baseball America rated Aybar the 18th-best Dominican prospect so he is a good player, but young and must pass age verification through Major League Baseball. I am glad to see the Brewers are starting to sign more Latin American players and stretching their reach. Other teams have been doing it successfully for years and now the Brewers are trying that approach. Hopefully there will be many more signings. The Brewers need to find some young pitching that they [...]
Brewers News And Notes
Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are hoping for the best when the N.L. MVP votes are counted, but honestly do not see either one winning it. Braun collected the Silver Slugger in the National League at his position so he has some hardware to add to his collection. Fielder should finish high in the balloting for MVP my guess second or third place. The Millwaukee Brewers added George Kottaras off waivers from the Boston Red Sox to give them more catching depth. Kottaras appeared in 45 games with the Red Sox last season and batted .237 with one home run [...]
Casey McGehee Comes In 5th Place In ROY Race
Casey McGehee finished a respectable fifth place in the NL Rookie of the Year balloting. The Florida Marlins Chris Coghlan won the award and deserved it considering the second half season he had. McGehee did receive one first place vote and 18 points total. In 116 games, McGehee batted .301 with 16 home runs and led all Major League rookies with 66 RBIs. McGehee is looking to build on his success in 2009 with an even better 2010. Unless he has some kind of setback McGehee will be pencil in the starter at third base. Mat Gamel will probably back [...]
Brewers Turn Down Option On Braden Looper
The Milwaukee Brewers friday decided not to pick up the option on Braden Looper which really surprised me. Looper will get a one million dollar buyout and can become a free agent. He was the Brewers winninest pitcher, but struggled down the stretch and the Brewers felt it was not a good idea to keep him. In a way I have mixed emotions about Looper. At times he did struggle, but other times he was not that bad. I guess we will have to see how this works out for the Brewers. The Brewers right now still have four returning [...]
Brewers Courting John Lackey?
The Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin has had some discussions about bringing Lackey to Milwaukee. Now I do like the thought of him in a Brewers uniform, but the reality is many teams will try and grab him. The Brewers would have to move some pieces to be able to afford to sign him and I do not think they will do that. Braden Looper is another pitcher the Brewers must decide on as well. Looper presents an interesting problem as at times he pitched well and other times he looked bad and has a 6.5 million option the [...]
Brewers Add Heether To 40 Man Roster
The Milwaukee Brewers have added Adam Heether to the 40 Man roster. Heether batted .293 with 16 home runs, 59 RBIs and an outstanding .400 on-base percentage mostly in Triple AAA in Nashville. He can play m,any positions so we will see what he can do. Rickie Weeks and right handers Mark DiFelice and David Riske from the 60-day disabled list were also added as well. Mike Cameron, Frank Catalanotto and Corey Patterson, catcher Jason Kendall and infielder Felipe Lopez elected to file for free agency which means they probably won’t be back with the Brewers. They could, but they [...]
Brewers Management Contines To Make Strange Moves
Brewers management in the last few years have made some strange moves and you wonder sometimes what they are thinking. I understand a GM is suppose to put together the best possible team, but some of the moves Doug Melvin has made does not make a lot of sense. Let’s do a quick review. First they traded for CC Sabathia which looked like a good move, but that was if you could resign him long term. The Brewers were not able to sign him long term and gave away some of their top prospects basically for nothing. A trade that [...]
J.J. Hardy Gets Traded To Minnesota For Gomez
The Milwaukee Brewers have started the wheelin and dealin already as they sent J.J. Hardy to Minnesota for Carlos Gomez. This move does not surprise me one bit as the Brewers need to make some tough decisions, but this one I do not like. Gomez hit .229 with three home runs and 28 RBIs in 137 games. He plays centerfield which means the Brewers will probably not keep Mike Cameron. J.J. Hardy had has a career batting average of .262 with 75 home runs and 265 RBIs in 571 games. I do not like this trade as I thought the [...]
