Brewers Should Continue To Be Good Offensively
The Milwaukee Brewers achilles heel last year was pitching and hopefully they have done enough to shore that up. The one area in 2010 the Brewers should be good again is scoring runs. With the looks of the 2010 lineup scoring should not be a problem for the Brewers. Let’s take a closer look at the fielding positions and how we stack up. Catchers Gregg Zaun George Kottaras, Matt Treanor, Jonathan Lucroy or Angel Salome Here I would have chosen to have Jason Kendall back, but he is in Kansas City. The Brewers went out and signed Gregg Zaun who [...]
Are The Brewers Done Adding To Roster?
It seems the Brewers are done for the time being adding players to their roster. This does not mean if something comes along they like they could make a move. The starting pitching looks like this: RHP Yovani Gallardo LHP Randy Wolf RHP Dave Bush RHP Jeff Suppan LHP Manny Parra Not really much different then last year. The addition of Randy Wolf should help, but the Brewers are counting on Jeff Suppan and Dave Bush. If the Brewers are going to contend in the N.L. Central Bush and Suppan will need to have good years and stay of the [...]
Brewers Fans Want A World Series For Christmas
Well with some of the off-season moves the Brewers have made are they any closer to making a push towards the World Series. That answer is not really. Yes the Brewers went out and tossed money at Randy Wolf who has a 101-85 record with a 4.13 era. Yes he had a good season last year, but did give up 24 home runs as well. I guess he fits right into the rotation as Brewer fans seen the staff give up a lot of home runs last year. The other signings the Brewers have made really in my opinion will [...]
Brewers News And Notes
Claudio Vargas has resigned with the Milwaukee Brewers and will be working out of the pen. Getting him back was a good idea and should help the bullpen out as it struggled at times. Vargas pitched well for the Brewers and was able to get guys out in critical situations. Kameron Loe a former Rangers pitcher will be invited and given a chance to compete for a job. Last year Loe was in Japan , but has pitched in the majors from 2004-2008 with the Rangers. Never hurts to give him a shot and see what he can bring to [...]
Brewers Resign DiFelice To Minor League Contract
The Milwaukee Brewers have resigned Mark DiFelice to a Minor League contract on Tuesday. They also signed for Rangers player A.J. Murray on a Minors deal that includes an invitation to big league Spring Training camp to try and win a starting spot. In 74 Brewers appearances over the past two seasons, DiFelice posted a 3.44 ERA and held right-handed opponents to a .218 batting average. DiFelice will earn slightly less than $100,000 in 2010 so he was signed for a bargain. Craig Counsell and the Brewers have finalized a one year contract as well. I am glad the Brewers [...]
Brewers Tender Offers To Six Players
The Milwaukee brewers tender six offers to Dave Bush ($4 million salary last season), relievers Todd Coffey ($800,002) and Carlos Villanueva ($447,000), and outfielders Jody Gerut ($1.775 million), Carlos Gomez ($437,500) and Corey Hart ($3.25 million). Three players Seth McClung and Mark DiFelice and catcher Mike Rivera can now become free agents has the Brewers did not offer them any king of offer. The Brewers are still talking with Craig Counsell and it looks like he will be abck next year. Rivera was gone once the Brewers signed a new catcher and Mark DiFelice had off season surgery. I was [...]
Brewers Select Chuck Lofgren In Rule 5 Draft
It has been all about pitching in the Winter Meetings for the Milwaukee Brewers and that theme continued in the Rule 5 draft as well. The Brewers selected Chuck Lofgren and will give him a chance to earn a job in the bullpen in spring training. The claim cost the Brewers $50,000, and by rule they must keep Lofgren in the Majors next season or offer him back to Cleveland for half that price. At least the Brewers are making an effort to improve their pitching staff which really was a problem last year. Lofgren was a starter for the [...]
Brewers To Add Wolf, Hawkins To Help Pitching Staff
The Milwaukee Brewers have deals with Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins to bolster a pitching staff that was one of the worse in the National League last season. Randy Wolf has agreed to a three-year contract worth $29.75 million, with a option for a fourth year. Wolf was 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA this year in his lone season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wolf is a good pick-up if he can pitch as well as he did for the Dodgers last year. LaTroy Hawkins was also signed by the Brewers. Hawkins, a 14-year veteran, made 65 appearances with Houston [...]
Brewers Close To Signing Dodgers Wolf
According to various sources the Milwaukee brewers are close to signing Randy Wolf . Wolf is coming off a career season in which he went 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 34 starts with the Dodgers and will command more than he was getting last year which was 5 million dollars. The Brewers have been targeting Wolf for some time so we will see if this deal gets finalized real soon and announced. The rumor mill also has the Brewers talking to the New York Mets about acquiring John Maine for outfielder Corey Hart. I hope the Brewers do not [...]
Brewers Sign Gregg Zaun To One-Year Deal
The Milwaukee Brewers have signed veteran catcher Gregg Zaun to a one-year 2.15 million deal with a 500,000 signing bonus and a salary of 1. 4 million. His deal includes a $2.25 million club option for 2011 with a $250,000 buyout as well. Zaun is a serviceable catcher who does not have outstanding numbers really not an upgrade from Kendall. In my opinion Jason Kendall would have been a better option for the Brewers. Even though he was going to cost a little more around three million he wanted to stay and play for the Brewers. it’s tough to find [...]
