Weeks and Brew Crew agree on multi-year deal

In just the nick of time too.  With an arbitration hearing scheduled for tomorrow, the Crew acted swiftly and have reportedly locked up 2nd baseman Rickie Weeks for the next 4-5 years.  Initial reports from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel are that the deal is officially completed and Weeks is on his way to Arizona for a physical.  Several different sources are reporting the deal to be roughly 5 years and $50 million.  No official word on the exact number or details.  We do know that the 5th year has an option attached to it.

The only things about the deal we know for sure, is that it buys out three years of Weeks’ free agency.  It could also extend to a fourth year depending on how the option is set up.  Tom Haudricourt is reporting that the four guaranteed years are probably in the mid to high $30 million range.  A lot of the details coming out are pure speculation at this point, but the deal itself has been confirmed.  Once Weeks passes his physical, the Brewers will announce the deal.  It’s looking like later this afternoon or early tomorrow morning.  We will keep you posted once more details emerge.

This is a great decision by the Brewers, especially when you consider what we have to back him up (see the definition for nothing).  It does not sound like they have overpayed, but we will know soon enough.  Stay Tuned!!
