His production in the field is pretty scarce, but I like the idea of possibly plugging him in at first for an option if Gamel doesn’t pan out.

Just saw Jim Thome is still out there. How about picking him up to fill in for Hart and be a power lefty off the bench? How well can he play the field nowadays?

I’ve always been a fan of that exact strategy. Aoki is the perfect lead off hitter in this line-up and Lucroy backing him up sets up nicely for the heart of the order. Even with Hart in the line-up, I still feel Aoki and Lucroy should be the 1 and 2.

What do you think of, while Hart is out, having Aoki bat lead off, Lucroy bat second, and Weeks move down to the 5 hole behind Ramirez?

My reasoning:

Lucroy’s contact skills really jumped last year and that would play up well behind Aoki (hit and run, taking pitches, etc). Plus, I think we could see him putting up .350+ OBP’s shortly based on his MiLB numbers.

Weeks, on the other hand, could better utilize his power and get some RBI’s driving in Ramirez and Braun.

Why not?:

Lucroy doesn’t have the ideal speed of a top of the order hitter, and Weeks prefers hitting at the top of the order.
