With the news that free agent first baseman Mark Reynolds is close to signing with the Milwaukee Brewers, I thought it’d be a perfect time for a little debate among the readers.
Reynolds is agreeing to a minor-league contract but word on the street – and by street I mean Tom Haudricourt – is that he’s almost guaranteed a spot on the roster. Which means, he’ll either be the outright starting first baseman or will split time with incumbent Juan Francisco.
The two are virtually the same player. They both have immense power…when they actually make contact with the ball. They’re known to strike out quite a bit. While Reynolds is a little more sound defensively, Francisco tops him in career batting average.
You can go wrong with both, but I’m not sure you can go right.
