With the NL Central being the strange and wonderful division that it is this year, another look around the teams that Milwaukee is going up against has proven to be a wonderful exercise in understanding the business of baseball.

Once again, our podcast that talks about anything and all things Brewers. Today’s episode (which is also pretty short as well) also acts as a ‘Recap on Tap’ as Colin and I discuss today’s 8-2 win over the Cubs. There was quite a lot to talk about in these past two days so here’s what we talked about:

-Today’s game

-Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun getting beamed

-Last night’s game

-Which platoon player could pitch if need be?

-Jonathan Lucroy’s value

-Brewers-Cubs rivalry rising?

-Tomorrow’s match-up, Jeff Samardzija (4-1, 3.03 ERA) vs Marco Estrada (0-2, 4.50 ERA)

-The line-up

-Cesar Izturis vs Brooks Conrad at shortstop

-Marcum’s performance today

Thanks again for listening and stay tuned for next week!

Well, that was a fun Opening Day weekend…right? I’m not much of a fireworks person as it is, and Friday just made my stomach turn. The disastrous 4th inning for Yovani Gallardo seemed endless, but that was all temporarily forgotten when Saturday came about. Zack Greinke completely shut down the Cardinals. On Saturday, Greinke went seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. It was a pretty terrific start for Greinke, but not so much for Gallardo. Then yesterday happened…to be fair, yesterday’s 9-3 loss cannot be solely blamed on Randy Wolf. While he did seem to struggle, a pitch count of 108 through only five innings of work, he did manage to strike out seven and only walk one. Wolf allowed three runs on nine hits. What scares me (and yes I know it’s very early) is how the bullpen just imploded. Every guy that pitched (Marco Estrada, Tim Dillard, John Axford and Kameron Loe) all allowed earned runs. Yikes, and I thought Friday’s loss was bad…but hey at least Ryan Braun is back in form as he hit his first home run. Okay so maybe the Cards were a bit of challenge, but it’s a new day. Tonight, we begin our first road game of the season and open up our series at Chicago with the Cubs (1-2). Let’s hope we can pull a win out here. (more…)

At 7 am PST (I live in Seattle, you may recall), my phone started buzzing non-stop. Why? It was ringing for what I am calling, “The most confusing deal since we traded for Tony Graffanino.”

Quick back story, on Friday the Brewers traded starting outfield hopeful Chris Dickerson to the Yankees in exchange for some pitcher Sergio Mitre. At that time, I wrote about how the deal made sense. Mostly, it made sense because we knew that Jeremy Reed and Brandon Boggs would both make the team. But, with today’s news of the Brewers trading Cutter Dykstra for troubled OF Nyjer Morgan, I do not know what to think. The Nationals decided early last week that Morgan would not be the teams everyday center fielder. This lead to the guy publicly announcing that he would be traded, even though no one in the Nationals organization knew anything about it. Or did they?
