So, here we sit. The Milwaukee Brewers (44-50) are farther back then they would like to be and with their backs up against the wall, they must sweep a series. The Philadelphia Phillies (42-54) on the other hand will not sit idly by and let the Brewers do so. Both the Brewers and Phillies are on backwards paths from last year and are trying to salvage what they can from their seasons. The teams’ struggles have been all too apparent, and with both teams losing their previous series before this one, they are both hungry for wins. The Brewers will try to rally behind Randy Wolf, Zack Greinke and Marco Estrada, all who will make starts in this series. The Phillies on the other hand have struggling pitching, especially in two pitchers who are absolutely dominant otherwise, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee. Even Vance Worley hasn’t looked as sharp as he did in 2011. Offensively, both teams look to turn it around, but it’s an uphill battle.

For this preview, I asked John Stolnis, a staff writer at That Ball’s Outta Here, a few questions regarding the city of brotherly love. That Ball’s Outta Here is FanSided’s Philadelphia Phillies blog so be sure to check them out! Here’s what John had to say about his team: (more…)

Ever since his call-up back in early 2007, Yovani Gallardo has been considered by many to be the ace of the Brewers’ starting rotation, even through the recent additions of Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum. I agree with this fact- sort of.

Gallardo has a career 3.63 ERA, which is solid. He’s also a strikeout pitcher, as he has more strikeouts than innings pitched in his career, and has broke the 200-strikeout plateau in all three of his full seasons in the Majors. Both of these things make him sound like an ace, but sometimes I question that.

Every Brewers fan knows that the big news of the day was Prince Fielder signing an absurd deal with the Detroit Tigers. Rumored to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $214 M for 9 years. That breaks down to about $750K per pound. That is all you Detroit. Tebow knows that city deserves never ending reasons to cheer. I wish Prince nothing but the best and want him to know that I will always be grateful for bringing this team back to relevancy. There is no doubt in my mind that if he stays healthy, he will be one of the greatest ballplayers of all-time. Good Luck Buddy. Walter is going to miss you most of all.

That should be the big signing news today, but it was not the one on my mind at work all afternoon.

The signing I want to talk about today is that of Tim Lincecum.

Today was a very light news day in Milwaukee Brewers land. The only real news is that, the Brewers organization asked the Brewers coaching staff if they want to go steady. Luckily for the organization, the coaches said yes. So, it seems that we can look forward to the spring, summer, and fall formal pictures (probably wallet sized). There is just one problem…

Dale Sveum, Brewers hitting coach (at the moment), is in hot demand. In the past few days, Dale has interviewed with two of the premier teams in all of Major League Baseball, the Boston Red Sox…hmmm…and the Chicago Cubs. Sveum has a history with the Red Sox and was aided by former Brewers pitching coach, Mike Maddux, withdrawing his name from consideration in Boston. That series of events leads me to believe that Maddux will end up as the Cubs skipper and Sveum will be the boss in Beantown. Both of these assumptions effect Brewers fans. Allow me to elaborate.

Lynda is a small-town farm gal (Belgium, WI) with a passion for baseball. Forget the Green Bay Packers, her Wisconsin team is and will always be the Milwaukee Brewers. Miller Park is her “home away from home” for spring, summer, and fall. Winter months are spent following the off-season chatter on the internet, Milwaukee Journal website, and MLB Network. When approached with the opportunity to blog about the Brewers and their minor league affiliates, Lynda said “Why not.” While she is no expert on baseball, she thought it would be fun to give a fan’s perspective of her favorite sport and team. Lynda is the newest member of the RtB staff. Be sure to follow her on Twitter @lyndalou45.

The way this works is simple. I make 5 realistic statements about the Brewers. Lynda tells me if she is “buying” it or “selling” it. Then she has to defend herself. If it was just a True or False test, then what would be the point.

The article I posted yesterday was primarily about the impressive performance of Randy Wolf. My goal was to find a very unique picture of him in his Brewers uni, to celebrate the ocassion. As I searched the World Wide Web for photos, I stumbled upon a true gem…or so I thought.

The only thing I could think of when I saw this photo, was picture day at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Kenosha, WI. It was the same guy taking the pictures every year. I do not remember much about him other than the sweater vests. Usually tan, with a blue or white dress shirt underneath. This guy had no real cutting edge poses for you. He just told you to sit on the stool, while he set up the background screen your parents picked out. Then some poor lady had to stand there and hand out plastic combs for us to brush our hair. When you finally sat down, the only advice he gave you was, “Tilt your head back”. Then he had this lame plastic bird on top of his camera, which naturally he would demand you look at as he snaps the picture. Even as a youth I found myself longing for something more from my school photos. Wait, what the h— was I talking about?

Ah yes, Randy Wolf/Geoff Jenkins. When I saw the above picture I immediately thought that maybe that same sweater vested man took the Brewers photos too. It is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities, Kenosha being just 35 minutes from Milwaukee. In my haste(and strange giddiness), I did not even think to really look at the picture in question. This morning, it was brought to my attention by a loyal follower (thanks Brian)that the picture I used for an article about Randy Wolf, was in fact Brewers legend Geoff Jenkins. Let me tell you, my face is still a bright rose color. But, this made me wonder if anyone else could tell the difference either?

I really hope that this is the last one of these………for both franchises. Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole ‘Hangover’ gang, but two is enough. The same could be said for the Brewers getting swept. Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole ‘Brewers’ gang, but two is enough. However in the case of the ‘Brewers’ gang, we could be looking at a trilogy as early as Wednesday.

The Brewers were swept this weekend, at the hands of the Washington Nationalists(I meant what I typed). They gave a way the first game, Yo got run out of the building in game 2, and in the third game we pooped the bed altogether. That knocks the Brewers to a 7-8 record on the season. After 15 games, things have been very Jekyll and Hyde for this team. Open with 4 straight losses, then win 7 of 8, but then lose another 3 in a row……….my blood pressure can’t take anymore. My doctor has recommended I start taking Lipitor. He also has me taking Pepcid AC for the ulcers that Randy Wolf gives me. I digress.

The polls are closed. All of the ballots have been counted. Florida “misread the ballot” six or seven times. Our beloved NL Central was 2nd place in fan voting, so thank you to everyone for voting. We were bested by the NL East though, always a bridesmaid……

The NL East roster is awesome too. You should take some time and vote for them. My least favorite baseball division, the AL East, is representing the AL in the World Series to end all World Series’ (happening this week). Don’t let the Dark Side take over. Please take a few minutes of your time and vote for the NL East:
