Something that I’ve been pondering for awhile is how seriously the Brewers and Cardinals honestly hate each other. The comparison strongly resembles that of the biggest rivalry in the MLB, Yankees-Red Sox. Of course we get pretty tired of that rivalry all the time, so there’s gotta be new blood. Well, I think not only last year’s NLCS proved that, but just last season in general. We went 9-9 against the Cards and really, we’re both evenly matched. The rivalry was really put to the test last season with the NLCS, and it didn’t come out in our favor unfortunately. However, 2012 is a new year. With a new year comes a fresh start, so let’s see how this season will play out.

This is something that has been bothering me since Monday night. How can the Brewers get this series back on it’s home turf? I refuse to let this season end with a 12-3 pounding in front of the Brew Crew nation. We need to look at these next three games and figure out where we are going to pick up at least 1 win. That’s all we need to get it back to Miller Park, just one win. It can be done, the question is how.

Before I dive into that, be sure and boo your tv tonight when Jeff Suppan throws out the ceremonial first pitch. That guy is the bane of my existence.

     Let’s start with what was really cool about this weekend. It was Mother’s Day (Love you Mom) and we almost saw two no-hitters on back to back nights. First from Cardinals Jaime Garcia on Friday, then Yo Gallardo followed up with a one hitter on Saturday. There is an easy explanation for why Yo pitched so well… he had no other choice. The Brewers held a 1-0 lead until the Top of the 9th inning in Saturday’s game. If he would have allowed a run, the odds are pretty high that the Crew would have lost that game. Absolutely the worst offensive team in baseball right now. If we take away the little 3 run outburst of “junk runs” they got in that 9th inning on Saturday, this team averaged 1 run per game over the past 9 outings.

     This is huge news for the Brewers, yet it has nothing to do with the Brewers at all. Various sources this morning are reporting that 20 game winner AdamWainwright, experienced some pain in his elbow after yesterday’s workout. It would appear that Cardinals management is already fearing the worst.

    Cards GM John Mozeliak had this to say to reporters;

Just based on the initial evaluation from our training staff, things do not look encouraging, but before we jump to any conclusions, we will wait until the evaluation this afternoon and at that point we will come out with another statement.

     Citizens of Brewlandia, this is a huge break for us. Wainwright is one of the best pitchers in the National League. This sort of news can only make us feel good about our chances to hang with the Red Birds this season. They still have Chris Carpenter, Jake Westbrook, and Jaime Garcia though. Losing Wainwright before you even start to dig in to Spring Training just has to be painful. My man Ray DeRousse over at Redbird Rant says people are openly weeping in the streets of St. Louis. It appears that Tommy John has struck again.

     In Brewers injury news, Mat Gamel strained his oblique. He will probably miss about a week. We will talk later on today everyone.
