Well, the good news is at least we’re back at home. The bad news is we have to play the Cincinnati Reds (66-42). The Milwaukee Brewers (48-59) have turned from possible contenders to now playing spoilers. It’s the best we can manage for our buddies of the NL Central, right? This is a series that I believe really is more so for the Reds to try and win if they want to expand their lead in the NL Central. However, I do not count out the Brewers because come on, who doesn’t like an underdog? The Brewers have gone 2-7 against the Reds this year and I’m hoping we can turn it around a little bit, just to show everyone we’re not that dead. This series is a short home stand for the Brewers, who then will go on a six-game road trip after Wednesday’s game concludes. (more…)

Here is episode 11 of Brew Crew Online in all its glory. With the Recap on Tap written last night, Colin and I decided to talk about some simpler (well, simpler in the eye of the beholder) things such as Zack Greinke and the All-Star Game. We apologize for the delay as Wednesdays are the podcasting days, but in the middle of recording yesterday, my power decided to go out so there’s that. Regardless, here’s what Colin and I talked about today: (more…)

Tonight will mark the Milwaukee Brewers‘ (33-39) second series of the season with the Cincinnati Reds (39-32). We lost the previous series against the Reds back in May, only winning one game in that three game series. Since May, the Reds have continued be red hot while the Brewers’ struggles have not faded at all. This time the Reds will be heavily favored again, especially since this series takes place at the Great American Ball Park in Cincy. Tonight’s match-up will see the Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo (6-5, 4.22 ERA) against the Reds’ Mat Latos (5-2, 5.20 ERA). The Brewers have struggled all season with division games and this series isn’t any easier. The Reds have been in first or at least tied for first for a good portion of the season so this is a series they must win to fend off the surging Pittsburgh Pirates. On the other hand, the Brewers must win, if not sweep, this series in order to keep their hopes up for the rest of the 2012 season.

In light of this occasion, I reached out the men at Blog Red Machine – Fansided’s very own stop for all things Reds, to preview the three-game set. Staff writer John Rentz gave me the low-down on Joey Votto, Dusty Baker, Reds fans and a whole lot more.

Okay yeah, I’m about two days late, but life’s been crazy. So before tonight’s game, which starts a new series, let’s go over our past game with the Reds shall we? Simply put, it was an absolute pitchers duel. There really can’t be worse feeling for either pitcher, Zack Greinke especially, in knowing you pitced one of the best games you’ve pitched in awhile and still getting a no decision. Well hey, on the positive side of it, at least it wasn’t a loss! Johnny Cueto pitched extremely well for the Reds as well. As always, our problems came within our bullpen. John Axford not only got his second loss of the season (with a 5.59 ERA now) but also gave up the two runs that would lead Cincinatti to victory. Ryan Braun did hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off of Sean Marshall, but that wasn’t enough as the Brew Crew lost 2-1. Now, let’s examine this game.

This article is being dubbed “Flea Market” style, mostly because it is an absolute free for all. I have so many things I want to share with you, but very few of them are related to one another, so you will just have to deal with it.

1) Please hop over to Call to the Pen and vote for the All NL Central team. An inside source told me that we are in second behind the NL East. Let us rise up and strike down our east coast oppressors. Click the link provided and vote for the best division in baseball…..ours.

2) Injury updates; Gamel strained his oblique and will be out for a week. Catcher Jonathan Lucroyis not so lucky. He fractured his pinky finger and will undergo surgery to have a pin put in. He will miss at least 4 weeks, which really means the rest of spring training. Greinke has a bruised rib cage, but is not expected to miss any significant time. Mark Rogers reported feeling tightness in his surgically repaired throwing shoulder, he will most likely sit out a day or two.

3) With the recent news regarding Adam Wainwright’s possible absence for the entire season, all of a sudden the Brewers rotation looks to be the best in the NL Central. It will be interesting to see who the Cardinals pick up to try and fill this enormous void in their pitching staff. Let’s knock on wood that all five of our guys at least get into the season. Kevin Millwood would make sense for the Cards or maybe Jerrod Washburn.

4) New Manager Ron Roenicke has yet to reveal who will pitch opening day. It is being heavily speculated that it will be a one Zach Greinke, but it could also be Yovanni Gallardo. Galllardo was our opening day starter last year, so this should not be such an open and shut case. The good news is that Dusty Baker has already announced that the Brewers will see Edinson Volquez, Bronson Arroyo, and Johnny Cueto in the first series of 2011. Sounds like a great opportunity to make a statement!!!

5) Word on the street is that fellow Brewers bloggers are not big fans of Yuni Betancourt. Too bad for us, because RR really likes him. This article fromTom Haudricortof the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote, comes complete with plenty of great quotes from the new skipper.

6) Former teammate of Zach Greinke’s, Joakim Soria, has asked for a new nickname. His current nickname, “The Mexicutioner”, has taken on a new meaning with all of the recent violence in his home country. My problem with this is his request to change his own nickname to “His Mexcellency”. I applaud him for acknowledging that his nickname is inappropriate, but come one dude you can not pick your own nickname. If you could, then you would never have your buddies Shorty, Fatty, and Loser O’Malley.

Check back tomorrow for more Brewers related baseball chit chat. Beleieve it or not, it is currently snowing here in Seattle. So, I might have a lot of time to write tomorrow. It only takes about an inch or so to shut this whole city down. Talk to everyone tomorrow.
