With the Recap on Tap written last night, Colin and I decided to talk about some simpler (well, simpler in the eye of the beholder) things such as Zack Greinke and the All-Star Game. We apologize for the delay as Wednesdays are the podcasting days, but in the middle of recording yesterday, my power decided to go out so there’s that. Regardless, here’s what Colin and I talked about today: (more…)

With a little more than a week to go til the Brewers’ home opener against the Cardinals, there are still some pending issues at bay. While I never though I’d make a part two to my “Reasons Why 2012 is Huge” post originally, I feel this is necessary. One huge issue in my opinion is that of the bullpen. John Axford and Francisco Rodriguez are pretty solid bullpen guys, but what about the rest? How do we go about replacing injured or crucial players and where do we stand not just in the NL Central, but the NL and maybe even the entirety of the MLB itself. These are a few issues I plan to tackle.

Well this week we had a great many things slip through the cracks, so I had to whittle it down. This has been a very exciting week for RtB in particular, as we have added two new writers. Don’t worry, you will get to know these two gentlemen very soon.

Since it is Leap Day, which of course is a day that does not really exist, I decided to theme the Junk Drawer. The 5 things I chose for this week, seem like maybe they shouldn’t be real…but they are. So, sit back, relax, and try to remember that nothing that happens today matters.

Today, the man who has been a thorn in my side since he accepted arbitration this winter, Francisco Rodriguez, spoke to reporters about the upcoming season. Needless to say, he caught me a little off guard. Okay, fine, I almost shot lemon flavored Propel water out of my nose when I read his quotes. Never judge a <del>diva</del> <del>crybaby </del>superstar, by his cover.

Back in December, the Brewers made a very surprising trade, sending third baseman Casey McGehee to the Pirates in exchange for hard throwing reliever Jose Veras. At the time of the trade, the spotlight was on McGehee leaving Milwaukee following a down season after two great seasons. But, with Spring Training nearly here, it’s time to take a closer look at what the Brewers got in return.

That would be Veras, a right-handed setup man who can throw in the mid-t0-high 90′s. Last year, with Pittsburgh, he went 2-4 with a 3.80 ERA while setting up for All-Star closer Joel Hanrahan. He obviously won’t serve that same role with the Brewers, but still will have big shoes to fill.

Last season, all eyes were on the new and improved pitching staff. It was easy to understand why, Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum had been acquired through huge off-season trades. Then there was John Axford, the young Canadian fireballer who would be taking over the closers role, due to the retirement of Trevor Hoffman. The bullpen was a mess, there were health concerns regarding LaTroy Hawkins and Takashi Saito, paired with Braddock’s inability to get some sleep and Manny Parra missing the entire season before it even began. Whether you were a half-empty or a half-full, it was all about the pitching in 2011.

Besides cheesy puns and cliches being thrown around, there is a lot of speculation going on as to what Milwaukee is going to do to keep themselves in contention for 2012.

Milwaukee has 15 ballplayers in free agency right now, and it’s clear that a handful of them will not be returning in any facet to the Brew Crew as they set off to defend their Division Title. With that being said, we would be remiss if we did not add to the speculation with a list of possible free agency outcomes of our own, though it probably won’t be what you’d expect.

Well, it’s Sunday and the Brewers are still the NL Central Division Champs!!!

For many of you, the name Eric Pleiss will evoke many feelings. I would hope they are mostly thoughts of love and peace, but they could also be of him being a Minnesota man living in a Sconnie world. In the past we have had him on as a special guest, in fact his first contribution to our site was his thoughts on a game he attended earlier in the season. So, it was without any hesitation that I agreed to publish his thoughts on attending the game on Saturday night. Which as we all know, was the day after the day that will live in our hearts forever. I will let you all jump in and read a Twins fans thoughts on a superior team/stadium experience…after one quick house cleaning thing.

This past week, one of our staff writers, Lynda, had a death in her family. I wanted her to know that Colin and I have her and her family in our thoughts during this difficult time. Lynda is a part of our “Greatest Brewers Mustache” round-table and I refuse to unleash number 1 until she is back. So, you all have my apologies for the delay of the greatest stache in history, but I am sure that you will all understand. She has worked very hard and deserves to see it through to the end. Please keep Lynda and her family in your thoughts.

Remember, if you like Eric’s work, you can find him at Puckett’s Pond. Ok, Pleiss…take it away.
