Kansas City played host to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game for the second time Tuesday night, but despite the American League having the host city, it was all National League all night.

The hits and runs came early for Senior Circuit, and they never let up through the whole game. National League pitchers proved to be the better as well, as they held their American League opponents to only six hits throughout the game. In fact, five of the 11 NL All-Star pitchers posted perfect outings, with the league striking out seven and stranding eight AL players on base.

If the All-Star Game is any indication of the state of power in Major League Baseball, the National League proved it rests with them after an 8-0 shutout and their consecutive Midsummer Classic victory.

The Milwaukee brewers go on break for a few days, and they left the first half of the season on a high note after taking down the Houston Astros in extra innings at Minute Maid Park Sunday afternoon.

It was a strange game from a pitching perspective, as Zack Greinke bounced back to the mound after being ejected the night before for spiking a ball after a bang-bang play at first. He only went three innings, but the bullpen shined and shutout the ‘Stros through seven.

Most of the action was thanks to Rickie Weeks, who knocked three hits and drove in two runs as he continued his improving numbers into July.

The Brew Crew’s bats were on full tilt in the final game at Great American Ballpark to pick up a win for Milwaukee starter Zack Greinke.

Greinke did not have his best stuff today, but it was enough to keep the hard-hitting Cincinnati lineup at bay as Milwaukee salvaged one victory from the Reds before heading back to Miller Park.

Apparently, they have to do far more than the Reds pitchers need to do against Milwaukee’s offense.

It was a nearly historic night for the Reds starter Bronson Arroyo – a pitcher who has gone the distance well against Milwaukee in the past few seasons – nearly no-hit the Brewers, carrying his bid through nearly eight innings.

That was not to be, as it looked like a game began anew in the last third of the game with a flurry of hits by the Brewers offense.

One more bad break – and one more bad pitch by Axford – sealed the fate of the Brewers as the Reds triumphed again to take the series, this time by a score of 4-3.

Both the Brewers and Reds needed a great performance in the Great American Ballpark tonight.

For most of the night, both teams got them, as well. Yovani Gallardo faced off against Mat Latos in the opening round of the three-game series, and it definitely promised to be a good match-up. Yovani played tough, going six innings and only giving up two runs. As usual – at least so far in 2012 – the Brewers behind Yo managed to muster only a single run.

A lot of that came thanks to another amazing pitching performance by the opposing pitcher. This time a complete game by Cincinnati Reds right-hander Mat Latos, and his twelve strike outs, that proved too much for the Brew Crew to handle. Latos helped to extend a rather dubious streak for Milwaukee – they have scored only one run in their last 22 innings of play. An anemic offense – including the end of Ryan Braun’s 18 game hitting streak – continued a slide to three straight losses and put them back to seven and a half games behind their opponents, who continue to lead the NL Central with the 3-1 victory on Monday night.

In the rubber match of the series between the Brewers and White Sox, it was hard to tell what to make of the game before the first pitch.

Two rookie pitchers faced off today – Michael Fiers for Milwaukee and the hard-throwing Jose Quintana for the Sox – and the young guns did not disappoint in a match-up that required extra innings. Both pitchers went deep into the game with no run support.

In the end, however, Chicago’s bullpen was able to go one step further and a walk-off hit to center field sealed the series loss for the Brewers with a heartbreaking final score of 1-0.

Winning two games in a row sure is helpful, especially considering we haven’t been playing our best ball as of late. Michael Fiers yet again proved himself MLB worthy by winning his second game of the season and of his career. Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Norichika Aoki came through big per usual. The Brewers are showing signs of life and hopefully this sticks. We can’t afford to drop series like these to teams we “should” beat. Not trying to discredit the Minnesota Twins here, but we know that the Brewers are a much better team than they have played this season. For the Brewers it was another huge road win that we needed.

Considering how this game began, it was a real pleasure just to write that headline.

In a match that featured two prominent, yet struggling, pitchers starting it ended up being the bullpens that needed to carry the day. Gallardo and Liriano did not disappoint, but neither could put the other team away despite good performances.

Whatever offense occurred during the game came in bunches, and in the end it was Milwaukee who delivered the final punch, a two-run homer by Martin Maldonado which was the final nail in the coffin at Target Field for a 5-3 Brewer victory to end a three game losing streak.

Zack Greinke had a big day on Tuesday night – for a number of reasons.

First off, it was the former Cy Young award winner’s return to Kansas City. Kaufmann Stadium was home to some of Greinke’s greatest performances, and he and the rest of Brewer Nation were hoping he could add one more to help Milwaukee wright the ship as the season approaches the halfway mark.

He did give a great performance, unfortunately the same could not be said for the rest of Milwaukee as Kansas City edged out the Crew in a 2-1 victory.
