Milwaukee Brewers Rumors: Twins Interested in Carlos Gomez

In this past off-season, the Minnesota Twins brought back Torii Hunter to their outfield as a veteran leader. With the team competing much quicker than expected, CBSSports’ Jon Heyman reported that the Twins have shown interest in bringing back another former Twin, Carlos Gomez stating,

While Gomez’s tenure with the Twins had some ups and downs, one Twins-connected person disagreed with the assertion they absolutely wouldn’t bring him back.”

While this would be huge for the second half in Minnesota with the team just 4.5 back in the American League Central, it could also help speed up the rebuilding process for the Milwaukee Brewers.

During his time in Minnesota, Gomez struggled with his top prospect status. In his two years there, Gomez batted just .248 with 10 home runs and 47 steals. As player in his young 20’s, he didn’t achieve up to his fullest potential.

Over the course of the past few seasons however, things have changed in Milwaukee. He has now not only become a two-time all-star and a Gold Glove winner, but his ability to change any game on both sides of the diamond has made him a consistent MVP candidate as well.

By trading Gomez, the Brewers would lose their top talent at the major league, but also gain a boatload in return from the Twins loaded system. While I don’t see the Twins parting with player like Byron Buxton or Miguel Sano in a Gomez deal, but adding an arm like Alex Meyer or Kohl Stewart or a bat like (Milwaukee native) Adam Brett Walker II isn’t out of the question for the Brewers.

Over the past few seasons I have loved seeing Gomez grow and develop in Milwaukee. His exciting play and passion for the game can energize a franchise, but with free agency pending after the 2016 season a move now should bring the most in return for a player the team will not be able to re-sign. With plenty of future outfielders succeeding in the system and a need to get more top talent, a Gomez trade with Minnesota would be a great move for Milwaukee.
