Jody Gerut’s Grand Slam Powers Brewers Past Cubbies 7-4

Jody Gerut has seen the high’s and lows of Major League Baseball and it seems he is making the most of his shot in Milwaukee. Even though Gerut really has not been given a lot of chances so far in Milwaukee when he has been able to play he has played well. Yesterday, Gerut hit a Grand Slam to help lead the Brewers to a 7-4 win over the Cubs. I think Gerut should be given more of an opportunity as when he is in he seems to play well.

Dave Bush pitched well yesterday and got the win. Bush went 5.2 innings and allowed four earned runs. Bush lately has been doing a much better job pitching, but he is a guy the Brewers need to make a decision on in the off-season. The bullpen came in and shutdown the Cubs rest of the way with Trevor Hoffman getting his 33rd save of the season.

As far as the Brewers hitting it was pretty good yesterday with Jody Gerut hitting a Grand Slam and Ryan Braun going 2 for 4. The one thing though was disappointing was Prince Fielder hustled for a triple to open an inning and was left on third base. When you get a guy who hustles that hard and with no one out and he does not score you have problems. You must get him home somehow and this is something that Brewers have struggled all season long with.

The Brewers are considering shutting down Yovani Gallardo for the season as he has neck pain and has thrown a lot of pitches this season. Probably best to just call it a season for him and let him get ready for next year.
