This is a huge series for the Brewers…and the Cardinals

There are a great many things that have caught me off guard this baseball season.  However, the thing that has caught me scratching my head the most, is the decline of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Something is happening to that team and they can not get out of their own way.  To think that one month ago the Cardinals were in 1st place, while we were in 3rd behind the Pirates.  Now, the Pirates playoff ship is sunk, and the Cardinals are on the verge of being knocked out of their birdhouse for the second straight season.

Tonight, the NL Central leading Brewers (man it feels good to type that) will take on the Cardinals in a three game series.  This series could essentially put the division out of reach for the Cardinals (currently 10 1/2 games back in the standings).  It does not help the Cards that these games will be in Miller Park either.  For those of you have not seen the updated home record for a while, the Brewers are now 50-16 at Miller Park (thanks to sweeping the Cubs this past weekend).

In order for the Brewers to win this series, they simply have to want it more.  There is one thing that I can guarantee you, that is Tony LaRussa will have his guys amped to play.  Starting tonight, we will see playoff caliber baseball for the next three days.  If the Crew does not show up in “Beast Mode”, I guarantee you that the Cards will win at least 2 out of 3.  The good news for the Brewers is the Cards pitching rotation in this series.  Tonight we get Edwin Jackson, tomorrow night Jake Westbrook, and on Thursday we get a kid named Brandon Dickson against Yo Gallardo.  Dickson has thrown 4 innings in the majors this season.  While normally I would say this is a good matchup for the Crew, they do tend to make no name pitchers look like Cy Young himself.

Two more days left in the historic month of Brewers baseball, that was August.  In all seriousness, this has been one of the greatest baseball months of my life.  It is actually hard for me to believe sometimes.  I know I speak for myself and Colin when I say that this team has NEVER been this good in our lifetime.  All I want is for September to not be disappointing.  The Brewers control their own destiny right now, keep winning and you will play in October.

Be sure and check out the#5 All-Time greatest Brewers mustache, Bernie Brewer.  On Friday, be on the lookout for #4.

Tonight is the final Timber-Rattlers home game of the season.  So, if you live in the Appleton area, try and get out to the ballpark tonight.  From what I understand it is free baseball hat giveaway night.  Just saying.

Go Brewers!!!!
