Blaine Boyer signed a MiLB deal with the Milwaukee Brewers over the winter, with an invite to Spring Training, and he’s making the most of the given opportunity.

Blain Boyer recently made national headlines when it was revealed he went to Asia in an undercover sting to save sex slaves with Adam LaRoche.

What not making national headlines, though, is that he has been quietly providing solid work in middle relief for the Milwaukee Brewers. For a second consecutive season, Boyer earned a spot on the roster after signing a MiLB deal (he did it last year with the Twins).

Boyer is showing that he still has the stuff to provide quality relief work. Through seven appearances of relief work Boyer has a 2.16 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a 1:3 K:BB ratio. He’s also yet to give up a home run in Miller Park through 8.1 innings of work.

Boyer provides a bright spot in the Milwaukee Brewers pitching (he’s not the only one for what it’s worth) as the starting rotation currently has the worst average ERA in all of Major League Baseball.

Boyer is also posting a 3.93 FIP through seven games. He’s holding hitters to a .242 BA, last season he held batters to a .249 BA with the Twins in 65 innings pitched. He’s also posting a BABIP (Batting Average of Balls in Play) of .270, right in line with what he posted last season (.264).

Boyer has done little to show that he doesn’t belong in the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen. While he’s no Will Smith, Boyer is showing that he still has what it takes and his veteran experience gives him an edge.

He may not be an elite reliever, but Boyer is providing quality innings of relief. Something that is desperately needed when the Milwaukee Brewers have the worst combined ERA for their starting rotation.
