Major League Baseball's end-of-the-year awards season continued last night with the announcement of the 2025 MVP Awards. After the Milwaukee Brewers were involved in both the Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year races, with Pat Murphy winning the latter for the second consecutive season, the team held no finalists for either the NL Cy Young Award or the NL MVP.

However, despite knowing that a Brewer wouldn't be coming home with the Cy Young or the MVP Award in 2025, Milwaukee was still represented during both of the voting processes. On Wednesday evening, after the Cy Young vote totals were counted, Freddy Peralta went home with a fifth-place finish, missing out on fourth place to Logan Webb of the San Francisco Giants by a mere three points.

On Thursday night, MLB revealed the MVP Award winners for the 2025 season, and while the National League's winner, Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers, shouldn't come as any surprise to baseball fans, especially those who watched Game 4 of the NLCS, Brewers fans might be surprised by which two players on their squad received votes.

Christian Yelich and Brice Turang each receive votes for the 2025 NL MVP Award

The members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America who vote on the MVP Awards are asked to rank their top 10 candidates, resulting in a long list of players earning votes for the award. In fact, this season, 23 players in the National League received at least one vote for the MVP Award, with four of them earning exactly one.

Of the 23 players, Christian Yelich finished in 12th place, with one writer giving him a fourth-place vote and several others giving him lower place finishes. Brice Turang finished two spots below Yelich, in 14th place, with his highest vote being a fifth-place one.

Both players are more than deserving of the recognition after the seasons that they put together. Yelich had a resurgent 2025 season after back surgery cut his 2024 campaign short. The 2018 NL MVP put together his most powerful season in six years, with 29 homers and 103 RBI to prove it. Perhaps more impressively after all of the back troubles that Yelich has dealt with through the years is the fact that he logged 150 games this season. A switch to a primary DH role allowed Yelich to remain in the heart of Murphy's lineup throughout the season, which led to his MVP-vote-earning numbers.

Turang, on the other hand, continued his impressive start to his professional career by having a second-consecutive breakout season. In 2024, the focus of Turang's breakout was improved bat-to-ball skills; he cut down his strikeout rate by four percent and improved his batting average by nearly 40 points. This year, however, it was a sudden onset of power that put Turang's name among the league's best during the MVP voting process. The Brewers' second baseman slugged 18 homers in 2025 after hitting a total of 13 through his first two seasons. His slugging percentage jumped nearly 90 points from his 2024 mark, and his on-base ability not only wasn't sacrificed, it also improved.

Capping off their memorable 2025 seasons with an appearance on the NL MVP voting board is a fitting honor for both Yelich and Turang. With both players under team control for at least the next three seasons, the Brewers' front office has a strong foundation to build off of as they work to continue holding the "perennial contender" status.
