The Chicago Cubs have struggled for most of the year, but it seems the Milwaukee Brewers bring out the best in them. Derrick Lee hit a Grand Slam and collected 7 RBI’s last night to help power the Chicago Cubs to a 9-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers who fell into a virtual first place tie with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Brewers starter Seth McClung only lasted 3.1 innings and gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in his short time out on the mound. McClung was brought in to show what he could do as a starter and so far that idea has bombed terribly. We would have been better off to bring up someone from the minors than to start him it seems. Again the bullpen was asked to put in a lot of innings which must stop soon or in August and September the Brewers will pay for it.
The Brewers did manage 10 hits and got home runs from Prince Fielder and Mike Cameron. The biggest problem was of the ten hits Fielder and Cameron had five between them. The Brewers also left nine guys on base which did not help them at all. Today the Brewers play an afternoon game so hopefully we will have better luck than we did yesterday.
