A Few Transaction Notes

The Brewers made another arbitration move today by agreeing to terms with reliever Kameron Loe.  The deal is reportedly for one year and $1.25 million dollars.  Both sides agreed to meet in the middle on this one, since the Crew offered him $1.055 and Kameron was looking for $1.65 mil.  Loe is a solid arm and a guy that we needed to bring back.  With this signing we still have two players floating in arbitration purgatory, 2B Rickie Weeks and SP Shaun Marcum.

As if the CF situation was not muddled enough, the Brewers went out and signed veteran OF Jeremy Reed to a minor league contract.  Reed is a career .250 hitter, with an average glove.  In my opinion this signing shows that the team is not completely sold on moving Corey Hart to CF and putting Mat Gamel in RF.   This is the list of players invited to spring training as OF’s; Logan Schafer,Caleb Gindl, Brandon Boggs, Chris Dickerson, Jeremy Reed, and Carlos Gomez.  Six guys fighting for one position also shows me that Carlos Gomez is not the answer either.  Personally, I am very excited to see what Chris Dickerson can do.  It is hard for me to imagine the remaining outfield spot not going to either Gomez, Dickerson, or Gamel.  Clearly, with the signing of Reed it is not as simple as I thought.

If I am Roenicke, I play this one very close to the chest.  Management has given you al kinds of players to look at and evaluate.  I would not make a decision until I saw every one of these guys play during the spring.  This spring I will probably be more focused on the outfield situation than any other position on the team.  Shortstop will also be a concern because I do not necessarily believe that Betancourt is the best option, although he is not a terrible one either.  Only a few more weeks until we begin to have more clarity.  Bring on the pitchers and catchers!!!
