Brewers start Cactus League games this afternoon

Now that everyone is all “warmed up”.  It’s time to start playing games.  The Brewers are the last team to start their Cactus League season, you know what they say, “Save the best for last”!!!.  Due to the level of awesomeness,  they are starting with a double-header.  The first game will start at about 2pm CST against our bitter rivals the Chicago Cubs.  That game will be played at HoHoKam Park.  The second game of the day will be against the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.  The Giants will come into Maryvale Baseball Park….also at around 2pm CST.

Normally, this would be nothing more than a two game day.  However, in an odd twist of fate the two games will be played at the same time.  That can only mean one thing; Split-Squad!!!

This morning they released the starting lineup and who would start the game on the mound.

Maryvale Park  vs.  Giants

Rickie Weeks 2B

Jeremy Reed RF

Yuniesky Betancourt SS

Prince Fielder 1B

Casey McGehee 3B

Brandon Boggs LF

George Kottaras C

Chris Dickerson CF

Brendan Katin DH

Shaun Marcum RHP

My only real interest in this game is to see how Marcum looks in his limited work (probably 2, 3 innings at the most).  This lineup does not look to shabby either.

HoHoKam Park  vs.  Cubs

Carlos Gomez CF

Craig Counsell SS

Ryan Braun LF

Mark Kotsay 1B

Luis Cruz 2B

Wil Nieves C

Eric Almonte DH

Caleb Gindl RF

Zelous Wheeler 3B

Tim Dillard RHP

This lineup is chuck full of young talent, so this could be a chance for some of these guys to earn a roster spot.  I am curious to see how Dillard does on the mound today.  The player I am most excited to see in this game is Caleb Gindl.

I will have scores and re-caps after the games finish up this afternoon.  Everyone have a safe and happy Monday.  We will talk later today.  Go Brewers!!!
