Milwaukee Brewers Sign…Yuniesky Betancourt?
Sigh.
I’ll let you use your imagination here. (Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports)
It’s official, Yuniesky Betancourt is back in the Brewers Blue. Justin Bopp of Daily Dish first reported it.
No one wanted to believe it.
But, the Brewers inked a one-year deal with the veteran shortstop after he opted out of Philadelphia Phillies Minor League contract. Last year, Betancourt went .228/.256/.400 back with the Kansas City Royals – who ironically took him back after trading him to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011.
I guess what goes around comes around. Yuniesky Betancourt will be expected to add further depth (…) to the shortstop position behind Jean Segura while veteran Alex Gonzalez mans first base in the absence of a recovering Corey Hart.
We can assume that the deal is a temporary measure in order to keep back-ups available, since both Taylor Green and Jeff Bianchi are on the Disabled List.
At least we can hope so. Welcome back, Yuni, and we hope your stay in Milwaukee is both productive and beneficial to the Brewers.
We always have hope.
