Jean Segura Leaves Game With Head Injury

Though there was some confusion, we can confirm that Brewers’ shortstop Jean Segura has left tonight’s game with a head injury. WGN showed footage on their station of Ryan Braun swinging his bat and connecting with the side of Segura’s head. He was helped to the locker room by the medical staff and it looked like he may have been cut on his head where the impact took place. Obviously, totally accidental, but very serious.

There were also reports that Segura hurt his thumb in batting practice, according to Bob Uecker and Joe Block on 620 WTMJ.

Jeff Bianchi will take over at shortstop for the rest of the game, who is currently 2-2 with 2 RBI as I type this, which makes the Brewers bench a whole lot thinner now with Maldonado still serving his suspension. If Segura has to hit the disabled list, I would assume both Jeff Bianchi and Elian Herrera would be the primary short stops and we could possibly see Caleb Gindl called up to add an outfield bat on the bench with Logan Schafer still on the DL with a hamstring injury.

I will provide more information as it surfaces. Let’s hope Jean is okay!
