Milwaukee Brewers utility man Jeff Bianchi has been outrighted to Triple-A Nashville to clear a roster spot for Jimmy Nelson. Nelson will start Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins in lieu of Yovani Gallardo‘s ankle injury.

The Brewers decided to keep Elian Herrera, who has already spent time in the minors this season, and Wei-Chung Wang, who has greatly struggled, over Bianchi. Bianchi, 27, is hitting .145/.172/.145 in 21 games this season. He’s collected eight hits, all of them singles.

Bianchi has the right to refuse the assignment and is currently talking with his agent on what to do next. However, the Brewers have told Bianchi they would like to keep him in the organization.

Nelson is 5-1 with a 1.71 ERA in nine starts with the Nashville Sounds. With Gallardo not expected to miss more than one start and relievers Jim Henderson and Tom Gorzelanny nearing a return from the disabled list, it is unknown how long Nelson will remain with the club.
