This past week the Shuckers went 3-3 to maintain their lead in the division. This week’s match-ups included an exciting 10-9 victory on Sunday night that saw Victor Roache slug his second AA home run and saw the team blow a 7-2 lead only to battle back for the win.
After several weeks filled with roster moves, it appears that the Shuckers will get even more pitching help, as Chris Harris is reporting that Johnny Hellweg will join the club.
Player of the Week: Orlando Arcia
Orlando Arcia has played so well all season that he is often overlooked in our player of the week honors, but he has been sizzling to start the second half. So far in his last ten games, Arica is batting .349 with 15 hits. Yesterday, he went three for five and was a key piece in the Shuckers’ comeback victory. With a .313 batting average, he still seventh in the league in batting average and he leads the league in hits.
Pitcher of the Week: Jorge Lopez
Lopez was our pitcher of the month of June and he continued to dominate as July began. In his start he went 7.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out a career high nine batters. His ERA was once in mid-fours, but five straight great starts he has now lowered it to 2.64, which ranks sixth in the Southern League just behind teammate Tyler Wagner.
