After an aborted trade to the New York Mets, center fielder Carlos Gomez saw himself packaged with starting pitcher Mike Fiers in a trade to the Houston Astros for a quartet of top minor leaguers, it was announced Thursday.
Gomez and Fiers were sent to the Astros for minor league prospects Brett Phillips (OF), Domingo Santana (OF), Josh Hader (LHP), and Adrian Houser (RHP).
Phillips (21) is a lefty hitter, and is the #2 prospect in the Astros chain. Phillips played at A+ and AA, slashing .320/.377/.548 at two levels.
Santana (22) has played 14 games with the Astros, but has spent most of his time with Class AAA Fresno. The big (6-5, 225#) right fielder shows power and projects to a 25 HR guy in the bigs.
Left-hander Josh Hader (6-3, 160#) is a lanky starter who plays at AA. He is 21 years old.
Righty Adrian Houser is a big guy at 6-4, 228#, and has spent time at Class AA Corpus Christi.
The Brewers have given up a pair of major league players, but are looking at four players that could be a major part of the Brewers future.
Time will tell.
