Milwaukee Brewers Head Home Limping: Phillies Series Preview

Over their last three games the Milwaukee Brewers were completely outplayed by the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs out-hit, out-pitched and simply played better all-around as they swept the Brewers in the three game series and continued their roll. Adam McCalvy’s tweet from Craig Counsell shows that they simply destroyed the Brewers.

With the Phillies coming to town and a battle for draft positioning heating up, here is a look at some things to watch in the series ahead.

Road to Worst

Currently the Phillies are the worst team in baseball and the Brewers are the fourth worst. But with the Phillies stretch of hot play since the break, they have closed the gap. The Brewers swept them in a four game series earlier in the year, but as they come limping back home the Phillies look to return the favor.

Brewers Pitchers

This weekend will feature much of the future for the Milwaukee Brewers on the mound. With Wily Peralta, Taylor Jungmann and Jimmy Nelson on the mound, there will be an exciting arm to watch each time out for Milwaukee. In his last outing Peralta was able to bounce back from a so-so start to pitch well enough to win, while Jungmann was hurt by poor defense in his outing. Nelson has been on a roll and will look to continue in the series finale.

Braun’s Run at the Record

On Wednesday night Ryan Braun hit his 250th home run of his career putting him one away from the Brewers all-time record. With 20 home runs on the year, he has already surpassed last year’s total. With three games this weekend, Braun looks to swing his way into the team’s record book.

The series begins Friday night as Wily Peralta 2-7 with a 4.48 ERA takes on Adam Morgan 3-3 with a 4.06 ERA.
