With 71-wins the Biloxi Shuckers are the only 70 win team in the Southern League and by winning four out of six this past week, they have gotten themselves right back into the second-half standings in the Southern League South. Here is a look how the most exciting team in the Brewers’ system fared.

This past week the Shuckers took four of five against the Jackson Generals and then lost a tough 11-inning battle to the Mobile Baybears to end the week. With a winning week, they are now only two and a half games back in the standings.
This week they have four more games against the Baybears before finishing the week with the Mississippi Braves for three. With both of these teams ahead of them in the standings, another big week could push them right on top of the division.
While Domingo Santana was called up to Milwaukee this weekend, the rest of the spoils from the Carlos Gomez/Mike Fiers trade continued to shine as Shuckers. Brett Phillips continued to be a dynamo at the top of the order in the Shuckers’ lineup and Josh Hader and Adrian Houser continue to put together quality starts on the mound.
Player of the Week: Orlando Arica
Arica is not only riding a seven game hitting streak, but he also finished the week with a three-hit performance on Sunday night that included his first multi-home game of his career. This performance raised his batting average to .302 which places him sixth in the league overall.
Pitcher(s) of the Week: Jorge Lopez and Tyler Wagner
With the way Lopez and Wagner pitched this week it is hard to pick one for pitcher of the week. Both pitchers went seven shut out innings in route to victory and both pitchers are on top of the Southern League in almost every statistical category. There is a good chance that they will end up fighting neck and neck for the Southern League Pitcher of the Year honors when the season ends.
