It seems Pat Misch’s journey to return MLB has ended before it could even start. A day after pitchers and catchers reported to Arizona for Spring Training the Brewers have released Misch, it should be noted that it was on his own accord as Misch requested a release to pursue an opportunity in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes.

Misch is just over a month removed from signing a minor league deal (with an invite to Spring Training) with the Brewers. Misch, who hasn’t played in the majors since 2011, has made 78 appearances (24 starts) with the Giants and Mets posting a 4.80 career ERA with a 4-15 record. In Taiwan last season Misch showed some life throwing a no-hitter in Game 7 of their Taiwan Series, which game his team the Chinese Professional Baseball League Title.

Smith would have been a bullpen option for the Brewers as Will Smith is currently the only lefty relief option for the Brew Crew.
