Jimmy Nelson knew he had his hands full as Astros’ Ace Dallas Keuchel came in to Miller Park Sunday as the Brewers hoped to take the series 2-1. Both struggled early on, but showed they were worthy of having a pitching duel.
As Wily Peralta gave up 6 ER yesterday, the Brewers needed sharp starting pitching and Jimmy Nelson did just that. After his first pitch was a home run to 2nd baseman Jose Altuve, Nelson settled down and had a line of 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 Ks, and 4 BBs.

Keuchel on the other hand had a rough start in the 1st inning as he gave up 2 ERs, but somehow was able to leave the bases loaded, which happened twice during his 5.2 IP. Although, he wasn’t at his sharpest, giving up 3 ER, 6 BBs, and 8 Ks isn’t so bad at a place like Miller Park.
The Brewers offense had no home runs as Aaron Hill (2 RBIs) and Domingo Santana (1 RBI) brought in the runs. Their offense was a total of 3-11 with runners in scoring position (RISP), while the Astros didn’t do much having an 0-6 RISP.
The bullpen was much like yesterday as they held strong giving up no ERs. Tyler Thornburg, Michael Blazek, and Jeremy Jeffress each had 1 IP. Blazek was able to get out of an inning leaving two men on base at 2nd and 3rd as he gave up a BB and had a throwing error to 2nd base trying to produce a double play.
The Brewers took the series 2-1 and go on the road tomorrow to play the St. Louis Cardinals at 3:15 CT at Busch Stadium.
On the mound for the Brewers will be Taylor Jungmann, who is 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 1 K, while Michael Wacha pitches for the Cardinals and is 0-0 with an 8.31 ERA with 3 Ks.
