Milwaukee Brewers Farm System: Brevard County Manatees Week 2

Another week, another rough set of games for the Milwaukee Brewers A+ affiliate: The Brevard County Manatees.

The Manatees went 1-7 since last Thursday, and are still trying to get their season on track.  These 8 games were similar to the first 7 in that there was not a lot of offense.  Here’s a look at this week for the Milwaukee Brewers A+ affiliate:

4/14 at Fort Meyers: L 2-7

Kodi Medeiros got roughed up a bit for 4 runs in 3.2 innings.  3 relievers then came in, each one giving up a run.  The offense was led on the day by Clint Coulter who was 1-3 with a walk.

4/15 vs. St. Lucie: L 0-4

Eric Hanhold put together another quality start by going 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned).  Offense was led by CF Johnny Davis and SS Angel Ortega, who each gathered 2 hits.

4/16 vs. St. Lucie: L 2-3

Bubba Derby started the game and went 3 innings and gave up 1 run.  He was relieved by Zach Hirsch who pitched 4 innings and gave up 2 runs.  The offense was again led by Davis, who was 3-4.

4/17 at St. Lucie: W 13-0

Wow, if only they could have spread some of these runs out.  Brandon Woodruff pitched 5 clean innings and was followed up by Kaleb Earls and Brad Kuntz who each pitched 2 scoreless frames.  The offense was led by Clint Coulter who was 4-5 with 3 runs and Angel Ortega who was 3-4.

4/18 at St. Lucie: L 4-9

Angel Ventura started for the Manatees and gave up 3 runs in 2.1 innings.  Two relievers then combined to give up 6 more runs over the next 5.2 innings.  The offense was again led on the day by Angel Ortega who was 2-3, R, 2 RBI.

4/19 at Lakeland: L 2-9

Starter Kodi Medeiros was roughed up for 8 runs (6 earned) over 2.1 innings.  The offense couldn’t catch up with RF Omar Garcia going 2-4 with an RBI.

4/20 at Lakeland: L 2-5

Eric Hanhold again kept the Manatees in the game by going 5.2 innings and giving up 3 runs.  Olczak and Spurlin each gave up a run out of the bullpen.  1B Dustin DeMuth led the offense by going 2-4.

4/21 at Lakeland: L 1-4

Bubba Derby had another strong start going 4 innings giving up 1 run.  Hirsch came in from the bullpen and gave up 3 runs in 3 innings.  Leading the offense was 2B George Iskenderian who was 1-2 with a walk.

The season batting average leader so far for the Manatees is Angel Ortega who is hitting .340.  Nobody else on the team is batting better than .250.  The three starters who are off to good starts are Bubba Derby who has a 1.42 ERA in 12.2 innings, Eric Hanhold who has a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings, and Brandon Woodruff who has a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings.  Tyler Spurlin still has 2 saves on the season and has given up 1 run in 5.1 innings.  Full season numbers the Milwaukee Brewers A+ affiliate can be seen here.
