The Milwaukee Brewers A+ affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees, had their best week of the season by far this past week, going 5-1.

And just like that things are looking up for the Milwaukee Brewers High A affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees. This is a big step in the right direction even though the team still sits at 8-18 overall.  Here’s a look at what happened in this weeks games.

4/28 vs Lakeland: W 5-4

Brandon Woodruff started the game for the Manatees by going 4 inning and giving up 4 runs (1 earned).  Kender Villegas then followed him with 4 innings of scoreless ball before Tyler Spurlin closed the game out with a scoreless frame.  The offensive leaders of the day were CF Johnny Davis and C Fidel Pena who both went 2-4.

4/30 at Tampa Game 1: W 7-4

Kodi Medeiros made the start for the Manatees and went 5 innings giving up 4 runs.  Jon Olczak followed that up with two scoreless innings in a 7 inning game due to the doubleheader.  Offensive player of the game goes to OF Brandon Diaz for going 1-1 with two walks, 3 runs scored and an RBI.

4/30 at Tampa Game 2: L 2-3

Angel Ventura started the second game of the double header by going 4 scoreless innings.  He was followed by Junior Rincon who gave up 2 runs in 3 innings and Zach Hirsch who gave up a run in 2 innings.  The offensive player of the game in game two was SS Angel Ortega for going 2-4.

5/3 vs Dunedin: W 7-2

Brandon Woodruff delivered again for the Manatees by putting up 7 scoreless frames.  Jon Olczak followed him up by going 2 innings and giving up 2 runs.  Offensive player of the day goes to 2B Fidel Pena for going 3-4 with two RBI and a run, but Clint Coulter, Gregory McCall, and Elvis Rubio each homered.

5/4 vs Dunedin: Postponed to 5/13

Brandon Woodruff earns player of the week honors from me after giving up one earned run over 11 innings in two starts this week.  Tyler Spurlin was promoted to AA this week after his strong pitching out of the bullpen, and to top it all off SS Angel Ortega was named the Milwaukee Brewers player of the month for April.  Here’s hoping they keep the train rolling and rack up some more wins.
