The Helena Brewers have another hitter out of the college baseball realm that seems to be thriving with the Rookie affiliate.

Last week I took a look at 1B Ronnie Gideon whose HRs are near the top of the Pioneer League with 12 (Currently 2nd). But, that doesn’t mean there’s plenty of other players to watch on the Helena Brewers. That includes 3B Weston Wilson.

The 21-year old, Wilson was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers this year in the 17th round. Much like the 1st round pick, Corey Ray, he comes out of an ACC conference school, University of Clemson. During his junior year, his last with Clemson, he hit .279 with 7 HRs and 45 RBIs and wasn’t so bad getting on base with a .343 OBP.

In early June, he talked to The Clemson Insider on the reasons he decided to go to college instead of going to the big leagues right out of high school:

More from Brewers Prospects

"“I had the chance out of high school (to go pro), but I came to Clemson because it could help prepare me more for professional baseball,” the second baseman said to TCI. “The things that I learned in the last three years have been a blessing to me just because it was stuff that I dealt with at Clemson that I had not in high school. If I had to deal with that professionally, it would have been a lot tougher.”"

Since then he has excelled with the Helena Brewers with a .315/.398/.506 batting line along with 3 HRs and 30 RBIs. Some advanced numbers have added to it with a wOBA of .401 and nearly even BB% (10.1%) and K% (12.6%), which are quite impressive.

And no doubt Milwaukee Brewers fans have made note of him on Twitter:

The Milwaukee Brewers hope to see more of their draft picks like Wilson and Gideon excel, but it’s for sure the college level certainly help them out and many are a few notches up in the system. It’ll be interesting what level they’ll be at in the upcoming year.
