Milwaukee Brewers Minors: Mudcats win third in a row

The Carolina Mudcats pick up their third win in a row to lead the Milwaukee Brewers farm tonight. Let’s see what else happened throughout the organization on Thursday, April 18th.

Triple-A

San Antonio Missions (7-7) vs. Memphis Redbirds (7-7)

Rain out number one – no game today for the Missions, and are heading to Nashville for a four game series against the Sounds.

Double-A

Biloxi Shuckers (6-7) vs. Pensacola Blue Wahoos (9-4)

Rain out number two – The Shuckers And Blue Wahoos will play a double header on Friday. Fans will get two games and fireworks, so it’s totally worth the wait!

Class A Advanced

Carolina Mudcats (9-6) vs. Fayetteville Woodpeckers (8-7)

Mudcats scored two in the ninth and picked up their third win in a row against the Woodpeckers on Thursday, 7-5.

The offense was lead by outfielder and Milwaukee Brewers fourth-rated prospect, Tristen Lutz, and catcher Payton Henry. The duo collectively had three hits, a double, two home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs.

One of the top performing Mudcats so far this season, Joantgel Segovia, was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Segovia is hitting .367 with a 1.095 OPS, and continues to lead the team in several statistical categories through the first 15 games.

Noah Zavolas had another strong start, going six innings, striking out seven while giving up two runs. However, the bullpen let him down and was unable to hold the lead, giving up three runs in the last three innings. Matt Hardy blew the save in the eighth but picked up the win.

The Mudcats and Woodpeckers continue their series tomorrow.

Class A

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (6-7) vs. Clinton LumberKings (7-6)

TimberRattlers drop the first game of the series against the LumberKings in 10 innings Thursday, 5-4.

Brice Turang did a Ben Gamel-like pregame routine, shotgunning a Red Bull, and had a three hit evening. Gabriel Garcia was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Je’Von Ward went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Infielder Yeison Coca had a hit and swiped his third base of the season.

The Timber Ratters pitching struck out 13 LumberKings, but allowed 10 hits through 9 1/3 innings. Max Lazar struck out eight but allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings. Reese Olson pitched four innings in relief giving up two runs but the loss goes to Robbie Hitt who pitched a clean ninth but gave up a run scoring single in the 10th.
