Milwaukee Brewers Minors: Corey Ray returns to action

Top prospect Corey Ray returned to action down on the Milwaukee Brewers farm, but what else happened in the organization on May 5th? Let’s find out…

Triple-A

San Antonio Missions (18-14) vs. New Orleans Baby Cakes (17-15)

The Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A affiliate welcomed Corey Ray back to the lineup, but dropped game two against New Orleans 5-2.

Ray who has been injured since mid-April was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in his return. It was a rough night though for the offense as the only Mission with multiple hits was Tyler Saladino, who was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Tyrone Taylor and David Freitas collected the other two hits for the Missions.

Bubba Derby went five strong innings with two runs scored on four hits and four walks. He is still looking for his first win on the year.

Donnie Hart struggled in his 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs, but Jake Petricka, Taylor Williams, Jay Jackson, and Michael Tonkin held the Marlins affiliate to just one hit through 3 2/3 innings.

The next game in the series is Thursday evening.

Double-A

Biloxi Shuckers (17-16) vs. Montgomery Biscuits (19-13)

The Shuckers picked up the series win and their third in a row against the Biscuits on Wednesday, 4-2.

Biloxi only needed seven hits to win today, two coming off the bat of Luis Aviles Jr. The Shuckers shortstop is hitting .308 including .361 in his last 10 games. Aviles also drove in a run and scored on Bruce Caldwell’s single in the bottom of the fourth.

Drew Rasmussen made his way to the Bayou to get his first start with the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate. He went two innings, giving up just one run on three hits. Overall this season between Class-A, Advanced-A, and Double-A, he has a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in six games.

Devin Williams picked up his fifth win of the season, going three clean innings while striking out six. Nate Griep closes out the game to get his seventh save of the season.

Game four is tomorrow at MGM Park.

Class A Advanced

Carolina Mudcats (19-13) vs. Fayetteville Woodpeckers (15-18)

The Mudcats took game two on Wednesday against the Woodpeckers 10-7.

The story for the offense was the 4-5-6 hitters of Payton Henry, Mario Feliciano, and Zach Clark. The trio went 6-for-11 with nine RBIs, three runs, a triple, two doubles, two walks and a stolen base.

Nelson Hernandez started the game, and went 3 2/3 innings with five earned runs given up on eight hits. Matt Hardy earned the win, his fifth of the season, with a scoreless 2 1/3 innings of work.

The Mudcats wrap up the series tomorrow night.

Class A

Wisconsin TimberRattlers (13-17) vs. Fort Wayne TinCaps (13-18)
