Milwaukee Brewers Minors: Travis Shaw goes hitless in loss
Travis Shaw’s first night of rehab didn’t go so well as the Milwaukee Brewers affiliates go 1-3 on Wednesday.
Triple-A San Antonio
San Antonio Missions (27-19) vs. Round Rock Express (27-18)
Shaw got his first rehab start in San Antonio, going 0-3 as the Missions collected just two hits in the 4-0 loss to the Express.
Mauricio Dubon and Cory Spangenberg each got a hit but no other Missions reached base against Cy Sneed and Gabriel Valdez. Sneed was a former Brewers farmhand, but was traded a few years ago in the deal to acquire Jonathan Villar.
Bubba Derby continues to look for his first win of the season, going 3 2/3 innings allowing all four runs for Round Rock. The bullpen combo of Miguel Sanchez, Donnie Hart, Jacob Barnes, and Angel Perdomo looked good against hitters, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Double-A Biloxi
Biloxi Shuckers (24-22) vs. Mobile Bay Bears (19-26)
Shuckers fans didn’t have much to cheer for as well, as the offense just had four hits in a 3-0 shutout loss against Mobile.
Dillion Thomas accounted for two of the four singles for Biloxi. Patrick O’Neill and Jake Gatewood each had hits as well.
Chad Bettinger got the loss, going five innings with three runs on eight hits.
Class-A Advanced Carolina
Carolina Mudcats (28-18) vs. Lynchburg Hillcats (22-22)
Another one run game for Carolina against the Hillcats but tonight’s result wasn’t like last night as the Mudcats dropped game three of the series 7-6.
They made it interesting though, trailing 7-1 in the ninth inning, Tristen Lutz scored a run a dropped third strike wild pitch with the bases loaded. Wes Rogers stepped the plate and on the very next pitch crushed a grand slam to make it 7-6. Zach Clark worked it to a full count but struck out to end the game.
Dylan File went five innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. He is now 4-4 in 9 starts with 51 strikeouts.
Class-A Wisconsin
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (21-23) vs. Peoria Chiefs (19-26)
The Rattlers put on a hitting display tonight with 10 hits in a 7-2 victory over Peoria.
2018 Milwaukee Brewers first round pick Brice Turang was perfect tonight, going 4-4 with two runs and an RBI. He has a team high .322 batting average in 149 at bats. Turang is ranked fourth in the Midwest League and is tied with David Fry for a team high 48 hits.
Speaking of Fry, he went 3-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. He has 18 doubles this season, both a team and league high. He is also hitting .300 with a .901 OPS.
Aaron Ashby got the win after going 6 2/3 innings with just one run on five hits. He also had seven strikeouts. Ashby is now 3-1 this season with a 3.73 ERA.
The Timber Rattlers had the only win of the night for the Milwaukee Brewers minor league affiliates. Hopefully they can get some company on Thursday.
