The 2021 National League Division Series (NLDS) between the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves marks the first-ever postseason meeting between these two franchises. Milwaukee finished the season with the better record of these two division champs (95-67), clinching the NL Central nearly a week before the Atlanta Braves (88-73) wrapped up the NL East.

Thanks to their regular-season work, Milwaukee operates with home-field advantage in this best-of-five series. It comes down to the pivotal matchup of an intimidating and slugging Braves lineup against a Brewers pitching staff that’s amongst the best in baseball.

Game 1 could be a classic as the Braves trot out their most experienced starting pitcher Charlie Morton against Brewers star Corbin Burnes, an ace vying for the NL Cy Young award. Here’s the betting preview for Friday afternoon’s game.

Braves vs Brewers Odds

According to WynnBET, Game 1 should be relatively tight. The Brewers are -135 (bet $135 to win $100) on the moneyline and considered the favorite while the Braves are +125 underdogs (bet $100 to win $125).

The over/under is set at 7 runs with the odds even (-110) picking either side. The run line is -1.5 for Milwaukee with +155 odds and +1.5 for Atlanta with -185 odds.

Braves vs Brewers Prediction

Game 1 will be decided by the performance of Burnes. If he’s able to put his previous fluke bad performance against Atlanta behind him, the Brewers will have no problem getting out to a 1-0 series lead.

Morton should keep Atlanta in the ballgame, but it’s hard not to give the edge to the National League’s best pitcher at home. Atlanta strikes out nearly nine (8.96) times per game and Burnes’ is the MLB’s strikeout king in 2021. Expect a heavy dose of swing-and-misses.

Burnes will be in control in Game 1 and gets Milwaukee out to a 4-1 win. Although, this game never feels as close as the box score shows.

Brewers vs Braves Pitcher Today

National League Cy Young award candidate Corbin Burnes (11-5, 2.43 ERA) and Charlie Morton (14-6, 3.34 ERA) square off in Game 1. Burnes has been the more dominant pitcher all season long, yet Morton offers the Braves a big-game pitcher with plenty of recent postseason experience.

Burnes will be making his first career postseason start, although he’s seen action out of the bullpen dating back to the 2018 playoff run. In six total postseason appearances, Burnes touts a 2.00 ERA after giving up 2 runs, 4 hits, and striking out 11 in 9.0 innings of work.

Morton has been Atlanta’s most consistent starting pitcher in 2021, starting in 33 contests and pitching to a 3.34 ERA in 185.2 innings pitched. He’s not the strikeout threat that Burnes was in 2021 (league-leading 12.6 K/9) but manages 10.5 punchouts per nine.

On the year, Burnes made one start against the Braves, giving up five runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Morton also owns one start against Milwaukee in 2021, tossing 6.0 innings of two-run ball.
