3B Yoan Moncada

Yoan Moncada has dealt with injuries quite a bit in his career. He played in 104 games in 2022, then 92 games in 2023, then just 12 games in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury. Can the Brewers depend on Moncada to be healthy? Probably not. However, when he's healthy, he's been a pretty good player.

In his last qualified season in 2021, Moncada hit .263/.375/.412 with 33 doubles, 14 homers, a .787 OPS, 116 OPS+, and tallied a 4.0 bWAR. Can Moncada be that player again? Maybe. He's only 30 years old and this would be a short-term commitment for Moncada, who needs to prove he can be healthy before anyone gives him a multi-year contract.

Moncada may not be as splashy of an upgrade to this Brewers infield as a Bichette or Kim addition would be. But he's certainly affordable for a team like the Brewers and is the kind of low-risk, high reward signing that small market franchises have to make.

Moncada's best season came in 2019, when he hit .315 with 25 homers and a 140 OPS+, earning some down ballot MVP votes. That may be a few years ago now, but it shows that there is big time potential in Moncada's bat when he's able to be on the field.

If he proves to be injury prone once again in 2025, the Brewers do have the depth to back up third base and still be okay in his absence. There's always going to be that 'if' with Moncada, but perhaps simply getting away from the White Sox organization will create a resurgence in his career.

There haven't been a large number of impact infielders on the move so far this offseason. Alex Bregman would certainly be an upgrade in this Brewers infield, but he's so far out of Milwaukee's price range, it wouldn't even be realistic to include him here. Any of these four aforementioned players, however, would present upgrades for the Brewers over their current options and are more attainable than someone like Bregman.
