Coming off another season where the team made an early postseason exit, the Brewers have had another quiet offseason, much to the dismay of Milwaukee fans. Pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training in just a few days, meaning the MLB offseason is all but officially over. However, as has been the case over the last several years, there are a number of big moves that may be made before Opening Day.
While Milwaukee tends to fly under the radar when it comes to flashy offseason moves, they have been known to make the move when the time is right, such as landing Christian Yelich and William Contreras. As the season approaches, there are some moves the team could make to have an immediate impact on the 2025 season.
Brewers should sign Justin Turner
Once upon a time, it was briefly, and ultimately falsely, reported that the Milwaukee Brewers had landed Justin Turner. Turner eventually went back to the Dodgers where he remained for two more seasons, before spending 2023 in Boston, starting 2024 in Toronto, and then being traded at the deadline to Seattle.
Sources: Brewers still in play for free-agent third baseman Justin Turner even after agreeing to deal with Kolten Wong. Most view the Dodgers as the favorite for Turner, but the Brewers are interested.

What could have been, now has a chance to happen 4 years later. Turner is no spring chicken, having turned 40 in the offseason. Still though, despite his age, Turner appeared in 139 games last season, slashing .259/.354/.383 with 11 home runs, 24 doubles, 55 RBI, and drawing 59 walks. Turner has primarily played 1B, having only played 13 of 285 games at the hot corner. If the Brewers aren't overly confident in Caleb Durbin, Oliver Dunn, Tyler Black, Andruw Monasterio, and/or Sal Frelick at 3rd, they may be able to try to turn back time with Turner at 3rd.
Milwaukee should trade for Dylan Cease
While the Brewers have a load of guys who can start a game, it never hurts to try to bolster your rotation. Brandon Woodruff may miss the start of the 2025 season, Nestor Cortes has injury concerns, and outside of Freddy Peralta, the Brewers projected rotation is a pretty young group. Milwaukee was reportedly in on Garrett Crochet before he was shipped to Boston, before landing Cortes just days later.

Maybe adding Nasty Nestor was enough for the Brewers brass. Or maybe they are waiting on the right time to strike for one of the bigger pieces still being shopped around. Dylan Cease is on a one year deal with the Padres, having agreed to a deal worth $13.75 million in his last year of club control. While Milwaukee typically finds itself on the selling end of those contracts, and a haul for Cease would take some hefty resources as Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer mocks up, the move would undoubtedly put the Brewers firmly in the driver seat of the NL Central.
Brewers should trade for Nolan Arenado, but only if the Cardinals will eat a chunk of his salary
This is a tough one to make happen. Nolan Arenado is under contract through 2027, has been an All Star as recently as 2023, and won his most recent Gold Glove in 2022. Injuries did dampen his production in 2024, but he still played 152 games despite being banged up. Arenado also has a full no trade clause, and even if he agrees to waive his no trade clause, you have to make a deal for a legitimate star in the division.
Still, the Brewers may need a third baseman. There are a bevy of young options who could play the spot. The question remains though, would you rather have a 80-90% Nolan Arenado, or one of the prospects/internal options? Watch this home run against Milwaukee and you tell me:
Milwaukee should start spending and sign Alex Bregman
Alright one more third baseman. This is another one that in all likelihood isn't happening, since the Brewers are unlikely to pay Bregman what he is seeking. The rumor mill is flying that Bregman seems to have narrowed down his preferred destination to three teams, plus the outside chance of a return to Houston.
Still, there is an urgency to consider opening the pocketbook and shock the baseball world by signing Bregman. Despite a "down year" offensively, Bregman won the AL Gold Glove at 3rd in 2024. Besides, with the possibility that Bregman could wind up in the NL Central, Fans would much rather have him in Milwaukee than in Chicago at minimum.
The Brewers should consider signing Jose Quintana
Brewers fans are well aware of how good Jose Quintana CAN be, as he has been pretty darn good against them in his career. In Milwaukee's final game last year, Quintana was incredible, pitching 6 scoreless innings, 5 strikeouts, and scattering just 4 hits. While it obviously ended the Brewers season, and may hurt to watch again, but check out his highlights from that game:

Quintana just turned 36 years old, but likely wouldn't cost an arm and a leg like some of these other guys. Quintana may not be the ace of any staff he is on, but would be a solid 2 or 3 starter for the Brewers. He haunted the Brewers while with the Cubs, Pirates, and Cardinals, and now Milwaukee has a chance to land him on their roster.
