Amid offensive consistency, Jackson Chourio defensive stat highlights his well-rounded profile

After missing the first month of the 2026 season due to a hand fracture sustained during the World Baseball Classic, Jackson Chourio is dialing up his game late in the season, and his statistics are starting to reflect his performance.

Since August 27, a span of 21 games, Chourio has collected 32 hits and six stolen bases, accumulating a slash line of .333/.369/.604 with seven home runs and 20 RBI. Three of those home runs have come against the Chicago Cubs, one of which was a two-run, game-tying blast in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs -- a game which Milwaukee went on to win in extra innings.

After Friday night's home run and two stolen base performance against the Baltimore Orioles, his season home run total is now up to 24, a career best, and he is one stolen base away from his third consecutive 20/20 season, an impressive feat at just 22 years old.

It's clear that over this stretch Chourio has been especially locked in at the plate, which is good news for the Brewers with the postseason looming. However, after a slick sliding catch in the outfield in Baltimore, expert statistician Dominic Controneo pointed out that Chourio could be the frontrunner for a National League Gold Glove award.

As pointed out by Controneo, Chourio owns a +12 DRS. That is tops for left fielders in the National League, with Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs in second at +9. Further backing up how good he has been defensively is Baseball Savant's metric outs above average (OAA), as Chourio also leads NL left fielders with 6 OAA.

In about a month, Gold Glove finalists will be revealed, and quietly, Chourio should be among those announced. The winners will be revealed in November. Winning a Gold Glove this early in his career would further highlight how quickly Chourio is progressing at such a young age, with his game continuing to round into form across all areas. Already, Chourio is becoming the superstar outfielder that Brewers fans knew he could be when he was rising through the farm system as one of the top prospects in baseball.
