After an offseason of anticipation, what seemed inevitable has now occurred: The Milwaukee Brewers have traded their ace, Freddy Peralta.
Just moments ago, as revealed by MLB insider Jeff Passan on the social media platform X, the Brewers have traded Peralta to the New York Mets, who emerged as the leading trade partner over the last week.
BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets.

As Passan reports, the Brewers are receiving SS/OF/2B prospect Jett Williams and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat, who made his debut in 2025, in the deal. However, Peralta is not the only Brewer headed to New York. As revealed by insider Jon Heyman, Tobias Myers is also heading to the Mets in the deal, making it a four-player trade.

Brewers trade Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers to New York Mets in exchange for talented young pieces Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat
The knee-jerk reaction might be to question why the Brewers had to add Myers to the deal if they were the ones giving up a 2x All-Star in the deal, but his inclusion in the deal only speaks to how intriguing both Williams and Sproat are.
Williams, a former first-round pick, is MLB Pipeline's No. 30-ranked prospect in all of baseball right now, and possesses an exciting blend of speed, defensive acumen, and sneaky pop. In 130 games split between Double-A and Triple-A last season, Williams crushed 17 HR and stole 34 bases. He has the ability to play shortstop, second base, and center field, and is likely to make his MLB debut sometime during the 2026 season if not on Opening Day.
Sproat, meanwhile, is likely to slide into MLB Pipeline's Top-100 list when it is updated for the 2026 season later this month. However, he won't hold his prospect status for long, seeing as he made his MLB debut in 2025. He has a strong cutter, an excellent sinker, and a nasty slider, that together give him an arsenal Brewers fans should be very excited about.
Overall, including Myers in the deal was an unforeseen development, but Brewers fans should overall be happy with the return that they received for Peralta. Both players are likely to have a major impact on the big-league roster for at least the next six seasons.
Plenty more to come on the trade and what it means for the Brewers going forward.
