2026 is the year of international sports competition. On top of the Winter Olympics, taking place throughout the month of February, and the World Cup, which will take place in North America over the summer, 2026 is also a World Baseball Classic (WBC) year. The international baseball competition, which began in 2006, will see its sixth iteration next spring, with games starting on March 6 and lasting until March 17, the date on which the final will take place in Miami, Florida.
The competition was wildly successful back in 2023, with a showdown between Shohei Ohtani of Team Japan and Mike Trout of Team USA serving as the final out of a one-run thrilling championship that went Japan's way. As the USA searches for redemption with MLB Network host and former big leaguer Mike DeRosa once again serving as the team's manager, the team is stacking its roster with elite talent in hopes of securing their first WBC title since 2017, and just their second since the tournament began.
Just moments ago, DeRosa and Team USA general manager Mike Hill joined MLB Network to reveal several more players who will be joining the roster for the 2026 competition. Not only did they reveal that Kyle Schwarber, Will Smith, and Gunnar Henderson will be members of the 2026 roster, but joining them will be Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang, who has been one of the best two-way players at the keystone position over the last two seasons.

Brice Turang set to join Team USA for 2026 World Baseball Classic
Turang is more than deserving of the honor after a second consecutive breakout season in 2025. The 25-year-old Turang added a shocking amount of power to his offensive profile in 2025, making use of slight stance and swing tweaks and an altered approach to tally 18 long balls on the season. That power, paired with Turang's already strong defensive and baserunning skills, rounded out a profile that has easily become one of the best at the second base position in all of MLB. For his hard work and commitment to continuing bettering his game even after he earned an everyday starting job in the big leagues, Turang is rewarded with a spot on Team USA.
Turang will still be a part of the Milwaukee's 2026 spring training, as will the other Brewers who eventually commit to playing in the WBC, but he will take a break from his MLB preparations during the first two weeks of March. The adjusted timeline could mean that Turang sees more game action early on in the spring to ensure he's ready by the time the WBC rolls around.
It's an exciting development for Turang, who is starting to receive the national recognition he deserves after being snubbed from the All-Star game in each of the last two seasons. With a spot on Team USA now on his résumé, it's further confirmation that the Brewers have a budding star on their roster.
