The Milwaukee Brewers' farm system is loaded with exciting talent. From starting pitchers like Logan Henderson and Robert Gasser, who have already made their MLB debuts but maintain their prospect status, to top-tier infield prospects like Jesús Made, Luis Peña, and Cooper Pratt, the present is certainly bright in Milwaukee, but the future might be even brighter.
Milwaukee's group of talented prospects was already impressive before the 2025 MLB Draft, which took place last July, but the players that the Brewers drafted and subsequently signed only bolstered their farm system even further, propelling them to one of the best in baseball.
Headlining that group of exciting draft picks is corner infielder Andrew Fischer, who finished his college career under the guidance of now-San Francisco Giants' manager Tony Vitello at the University of Tennessee. Fischer was the Brewers' first selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, taken 20th overall in what is shaping up to be a very talented draft class.
The 21-year-old Fischer, who blends impressive raw power with a mature approach at the plate that netted 63 walks to just 42 strikeouts in his final collegiate season, has the potential to be one of, if not the best hitter of the 2025 class -- one popular prospect evaluation publication surely believes so.
Baseball America names Brewers' 2025 first-round draft pick Andrew Fischer the top 3B prospect in baseball
When it comes to prospect evaluation, the popular publication Baseball America is among the best. MLB Pipeline is often used when referring to Top 100 prospects or the Top 30 prospects in each MLB team's farm system, but oftentimes the rankings that Baseball America produces end up being more accurate and therefore more predictive of who will be the next batch of MLB stars.
Recently, over at BaseballAmerica.com, which does require a subscription that is absolutely worth it for the die-hard baseball fans, their team of prospect evaluators produced their lists of the Top 10 prospects at each position heading into the 2026 season. MLB Pipeline is currently releasing theirs day-by-day, and it's interesting to see how the two publications differ in their evaluations of certain prospects. Regardless, atop Baseball America's list of the top 3B prospects heading into the 2026 season is Fischer.
It may not come as a surprise to keen observers of the minor leagues -- Fischer was second only to the Cincinnati Reds' Sal Stewart in MLB Pipeline's updated list of the top 3B prospects in baseball at the end of the 2025 season. However, for a player with just 19 games of professional experience to his name, earning the top spot among all 3B prospects in baseball is an impressive feat.
Baseball America's ranking also reinforces the idea that Fischer can stick at the hot corner defensively going forward. Questions of whether the slugging left-hander would have to switch over to first base -- where he spent much of his time at Tennessee -- arose when the Brewers drafted him, but Milwaukee was adamant that he had a good chance of remaining at third as he progressed through the minor leagues. With players like Blake Burke, Luke Adams, and Mike Boeve, all of whom are first basemen, at similar stages of development to Fischer, the latter's ability to stay at third base defensively would be very valuable to the Brewers.
Imagining a future infield consisting of Fischer, Made, Peña, and Burke is exciting in its own right, but then you remember that the Brewers still have prospects like Pratt and Brock Wilken in their farm system, who are each expected to be productive big leaguers as well. An infield logjam might be on the horizon for the Brew Crew, but that certainly falls into the category of "good problems to have."
