For a much of the offseason, Milwaukee Brewers fans have been clamoring for the team to add some big league talent to the roster. While adding Nestor Cortes was very solid for the starting rotation, and getting Brandon Woodruff back from injury feels like a free agent pickup after he missed the full 2024 season, fans still wanted more. Particularly fans and analysts alike wanted Milwaukee to add a bat.

With the loss of Willy Adames to free agency, Milwaukee has some sort of gap to cover in its infield. Bryce Turang will factor in somewhere, whether that be remaining at 2nd base, or moving over to shortstop. Joey Ortiz played well at 3rd base last season, and seemed to be the heir apparent at shortstop when he was acquired last season. There's also prospect Caleb Durbin who could play any of the infield spots, as well as Sal Frelick who spent time last spring getting work at 3rd base with how loaded the Brewers outfield currently stands.

The Milwaukee Brewers outfield just got a bit more crowded, as the Brewers inked Manuel Margot to a minor league deal on Friday. The news was first reported by MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Brewers sign Manuel Margot to a minor league deal

Margot spent the 2024 season in a platoon role for the Minnesota Twins after being traded twice in the offseason, first from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Dodgers, then from the Dodgers to Minnesota. An injury derailed Margot in 2022, and he has struggled to find his footing since then, including a .238/.289/.337 slash line in 2024 with Minnesota.

One bright spot for him though, is something Milwaukee has struggled with in the past. He hit left handed pitchers exceptionally well, with a slash line of .269/.332/.391 in 171 appearances last year. He was also down a bit last year defensively but still proved what made him special.

Margot very well could just be a piece for Spring Training. The Brewers outfield is stacked with talent, including Blake Perkins, Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, budding superstar Jackson Chourio, and former MVP and multiple time All Star, Christian Yelich. Due to his service time, he will have 3 opt out dates, March 22nd (five days before Opening Day), May 1st, and June 1st.
