For most of American Family Field/Miller Park's 25-year lifespan, the exterior of the ballpark has looked pretty much the same. While the interior has seen a number of renovations through the years and plenty of money has been poured into the stadium to keep it functioning, the overall look of the exterior has remained practically untouched, aside from a change in signage when American Family Insurance took over the naming rights to the stadium five years ago. However, that is soon about to change.
Though it won't be a major alteration to the overall look of the Milwaukee Brewers' home ballpark, and from many angles fans won't be able to see the difference, the construction of a two-story exclusive club known as "The Truss" will serve as one of the biggest changes to American Family Field/Miller Park in the stadium's history. The exterior will be a green brick that is said to match the color of American Family Field's retractable roof. Renderings of the exterior and interior of The Truss can be seen in the article from MLB.com's Brewers' beat reporter Adam McCalvy that is linked below.
Coming to American Family Field in 2027: Truss Club
Construction has already begun on the attached building, but the Brewers just announced this morning what exactly the club will entail when it opens for the 2027 campaign. According to the Brewers, access to The Truss will require membership to the "Truss Club," which the organization describes as "a new membership experience designed for those who want the best out of game day and beyond."
Members of The Truss Club will not only gain exclusive access to "The Truss," but they will also be purchasing a seat right behind home plate. According to McCalvy, these Truss Club seats will take up the first six rows behind home plate, and the Brewers will be expanding the current section by one row, meaning the area behind home plate will decrease.
Brewers new "Truss Club" to not only expand American Family Field, but also affect the ballpark's field dimensions
During the offseason, the Brewers will be ripping out the first five rows of seats behind home plate and replacing them with what the organization describes as "spacious, cushioned seating designed for a more comfortable, premium viewing experience." They will also be adding a row in front of the current first row of seats behind home plate, which will cut down the amount of room between fans and home plate at American Family Field.
It's a change that shouldn't have too great of an impact on gameplay -- not nearly as much as, say, moving in the outfield fence -- but it will still slightly affect the game. Some foul pop-ups that are currently outs at American Family Field will become souvenirs for fans next season.
