The year is 2011. "New Noise" by Refused blares from the speakers at Miller Park, and Milwaukee Brewers fans packing the stadium can almost guarantee that their team is going to pull off a win. Why? Because John Axford is trotting out to the mound.
The "Ax Man" saved a combined 105 games for the Crew from 2010-2012, and was a near-perfect 46 of 48 in save opportunities during the best season of his career in 2011. That same season, Axford posted a sub-2.00 ERA while making 74 appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen. His 46 saves led the National League, and Axford finished ninth in Cy Young voting and even earned MVP votes.
With just two and a half seasons as the Milwaukee Brewers’ closer, Axford cemented himself as one of the great closers in Brewers' history and was no doubt a fan favorite during his time with the Brew Crew. To this day, he holds franchise records for the most saves in a single season and most consecutive saves without a blown one.
For his contributions to the Brewers, the team will recognize Axford with a place on the Wall of Honor, a permanent installation on the exterior wall of American Family Field just outside of left field.

John Axford to receive spot on Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor, ceremony set for August 23
In a press release on Monday, the Brewers announced that Axford will be honored with a bronze plaque that will sit alongside Brewers' legends like Hank Aaron, Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, and legendary closers Rollie Fingers and Trevor Hoffman on the team's Wall of Honor.
The presentation of Axford's plaque will occur on Saturday, August 23, a day in which the Brewers face the San Francisco Giants in a 6:10 p.m. CT game that could have major playoff implications. Axford will also toss out a ceremonial first pitch, and highlights of his time with the Brewers will play on the video board.
It's sure to be a nostalgic evening at American Family Field, and an enjoyable walk down memory lane for Brewers fans who should have fond memories of Axford's record-breaking tenure in Milwaukee.
