There's no denying that infielders are the strength of the Milwaukee Brewers' excellent farm system. Each of the Brewers' top four prospects and five of their top six, according to MLB Pipeline, are infielders. Additionally, each of those five top-ranked infielders -- Jesús Made, Luis Peña, Jett Williams, Cooper Pratt, and Andrew Fischer -- now find themselves among Pipeline's Top 100 prospects in baseball after Fischer was officially added to the list over the weekend.
While there's little doubt that the Brewers' future infield will be among the best in baseball once each of these prospects graduates to the major leagues, questions remain about what Milwaukee's outfield group will look like down the line. Jackson Chourio is under contract through the 2033 season, Sal Frelick still has yet to hit arbitration, and Garrett Mitchell is under team control through the 2028 season, so it's not an issue that will necessarily pop up in the near future. However, for an organization that always has one eye on the future, it's fair to wonder who will join Chourio in the outfield, should Frelick and Mitchell depart Milwaukee in free agency in a few short years.
For as loaded as Milwaukee's farm system is in the infield department, their minor league outfield group looks far more uncertain. Josh Adamczewski (Milwaukee's No. 11-ranked prospect), Luis Lara (Milwaukee's No. 12-ranked prospect), and Braylon Payne (Milwaukee's No. 14-ranked prospect) make up the organization's best outfield prospects, but there's a gap in terms of their stages of development. Lara has begun the 2026 season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, while Adamczewski and Payne are set to start the year in High-A with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Meanwhile, in Double-A, the Brewers are relying on an outfield group filled with minor league free agent signings, including Dasan Brown, Jordyn Adams, and Jacob Hurtubise, all of whom will once again hit free agency after the 2026 season, assuming they aren't added to Milwaukee's 40-man roster. In search of more outfield depth in their minor league group, the Brewers executed an under-the-radar trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday, as initially reported by MLB.com's Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy.
A trade! Brewers are acquiring Minor League OF Damon Keith from the Dodgers for cash. He’ll most likely join Double-A Biloxi.

Brewers acquire minor league outfielder Damon Keith from Dodgers in under-the-radar trade
An 18th-round pick by the Dodgers out of the California Baptist University back in 2021, Damon Keith has put together an impressive minor league career. The late-round pick made his way into the Dodgers' Top 30 prospects list back in 2023 despite Los Angeles having one of the more talented farm systems in MLB. At the time, Keith was coming off a 2022 season in which he popped 17 homers and posted an .889 OPS in a season split between Low-A and High-A.
In the years since, Keith has continued to demonstrate his power potential, but an uptick in strikeouts has led prospect evaluators to lessen their enthusiasm around the right-handed outfielder. In 89 games at the Double-A level last year, Keith slugged 11 homers, but struck out in 31% of his plate appearances.
If the Brewers can figure out a way to cut down Keith's swing-and-miss tendencies at the plate, there's real potential in his profile. Though he's only played in the corner outfield in each of the last two seasons, Keith did swipe 22 bases over the last two seasons and earned an above-average grade for his run tool back in 2023.
With power and some speed, a better approach at the plate could make the 25-year-old Keith a really intriguing addition to the Shuckers' roster. Keith won't become a minor league free agent until after the 2027 season, so assuming he isn't stolen in the Rule 5 Draft this December, he will have a couple of seasons under the guidance of the Brewers' excellent player development system to reach his true potential.
