The Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff is currently decimated by injuries as starters Aaron Civale, Tobias Myers, Aaron Ashby, and DL Hall are all currently on the injured list.
Additionally, Jose Quintana and Brandon Woodruff are continuing to ramp up with their sights set on a 2025 debut in the near future. Quintana is expected to be ready for big league action by sometime around mid-April, but Woodruff's return is expected to be much later.
This led to Elvin Rodriguez starting the Brewers' home opener against the Kansas City Royals and rookie Chad Patrick rounding out the rotation during Milwaukee's homestand.
Brewers eyeing pitching help as Scott Boras client set to audition
The current state of the Brewers pitching staff during opening weekend against the New York Yankees, led to baseball's super-agent Scott Boras reaching out to Milwaukee owner Mark Attanasio. His pitch to Attanasio was that they need pitching help and that he has a client that Milwaukee should sign. While no signing has happened yet, but that unnamed Boras client will auditioning and throwing a bullpen for the Brewers.
Giving a talk at Carroll University this afternoon (go Pios), Brewers owner Mark Attanasio mentioned that he was talking with agent Scott Boras in recent days, and an unsigned Boras client will be throwing a bullpen for the Brewers to watch. pic.twitter.com/EkC6mCXmPB

The most realistic possibility is that Boras reached out to Attanasio to set up an audition for 32-year-old right-hander Spencer Turnbull. Turnbull switched agents from Kent Matthews of Stadium Ventures to Boras in 2024, but went unsigned this past offseason after posting great numbers in a limited sample size with the Philadelphia Phillies last year.
Turnbull, who posted a 2.65 ERA over 54.1 innings pitched last season, wouldn't cost much as his $2 million deal with Philadelphia last year. Injuries have plagued him throughout his career, but given his experience as a starter and reliever, Milwaukee should certainly be entertaining Turnbull as a possibility in the short term.
Other Boras clients that are unsigned include ex-Brewers pitcher Zach Davies and former slugger Joey Gallo. Davies did not appear in the big leagues last year and Gallo recently announced that he was switching from a position player to a pitcher. The odds that Boras called Attanasio regarding Davies or Gallo seems slim.
It will be interesting to see if the Brewers like what they see in the client that Boras convinced them to audition. If not, it could be back to the drawing board.
