The Milwaukee Brewers are entering the All-Star Break a bit banged up. Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski skipped his scheduled Sunday start due to fatigue, and isn't expected to pitch in the opening series against the Miami Marlins after the break. Kyle Harrison is on the injured list with forearm tightness. Brandon Woodruff's availability for the rest of this year has been further called into doubt as the veteran right-hander was added to the 60-day IL today. And infielder David Hamilton is out with a hamstring strain.
Between Hamilton's absence and Cooper Pratt now being the everyday shortstop, Joey Ortiz has been seeing a lot of time at third base. While his numbers since making the switch have been better, slashing .255/.264/.373 since Pratt's arrival, having another infielder in the mix who can fill in at third base while Hamilton is on the shelf would certainly benefit the team.
One player capable of filling that role is infield prospect Jett Williams, who was acquired in the Freddy Peralta trade last winter. Williams has had a down season by his standards, currently owning a .726 OPS in Triple-A, but since the calendar flipped to July he has shown signs of turning things around as he's collected eight hits in five games.
Unfortunately, he appeared to injure his wrist during an at-bat on July 7, and has been out of the Nashville Sounds lineup since. Equally as unfortunate is that according to Curt Hogg at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the minor injury cost him an opportunity to make his MLB Debut prior to the All-Star Break. Notably, Williams has had surgery on his right wrist in the past, undergoing a procedure to address a TFCC tear in 2024 when he was in the New York Mets organization.
Brewers updates:
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) July 12, 2026
-Jacob Misiorowski will likely begin throwing again Tuesday. He won't pitch the first series out of the break.
-David Hamilton will miss " a couple series" after the break
-Jett Williams has a minor wrist injury, otherwise he would likely have been called up
Jett Williams' MLB Debut delayed due to a minor wrist injury
Prior to the Brewers series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee made a flurry of roster moves. As previously mentioned, Woodruff landed on the 60-day IL. Rookie right-hander Coleman Crow was reinstated from the IL and subsequently optioned to Triple-A. Additionally, outfielder Greg Jones was designated for assignment, and infielder Braden Shewmake was acquired from the Houston Astros in a minor trade for cash considerations.
Shewmake, who appeared in 31 games for the Astros this year, was DFA'd following shortstop Jeremy Peña's reinstatement from the injured list. The 28-year-old has no minor league options remaining, and previously appeared in the big leagues for the Atlanta Braves in 2023 and Chicago White Sox in 2024. Shewmake offers some defensive versatility and a little offensive potential, but likely won't be a long-term member of the Brew Crew.
Hogg's reporting that Williams was set to receive the call to the big leagues before suffering the wrist injury suggests that the top prospect's MLB debut has merely been delayed and could occur sooner rather than later. Once healthy, he should still have an opportunity waiting for him to make his much-anticipated major league debut.
