Injuries are bound to happen in Spring Training. The most unfortunate part of the beginning of Spring Training is the announcement of injuries that have occurred over the offseason and the increased likelihood of players suffering new injuries as the new season gets underway.

Last year, the Brewers as a team suffered a number of injuries in Spring Training, including losing Aaron Ashby and DL Hall for the first two months of the 2025 season. This year, Milwaukee avoided the injury bug for the first few days of camp as players around the league were going down with devastating injuries, including three notable players -- Francisco Lindor, Corbin Carroll, and Jackson Holiday -- all suffering broken hamate bones in their hands.

While Milwaukee doesn't have any injuries to that level yet (knock on wood as much as you can), team insider Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel just revealed on the social media platform X that one of the Brewers' intriguing offseason minor league free agent signings will miss four months with a broken bone in his foot.

Brewers' minor league free agent Gerson Garabito set to miss four months with foot injury

The Brewers signed Gerson Garabito back in mid-December after the now-30-year-old right-hander finished out his 2025 season with a strong showing in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). Despite earning a minor league contract, Garabito has an intriguing arsenal of pitches and made his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers in 2024. He posted a 2.64 ERA in 15 starts in the KBO last year, which clearly caught the attention of the Brewers' front office.

Unfortunately, Garabito has now hit a sizable roadblock in his development as a broken bone in his foot will keep him out for the next four months. The versatile right-hander, who has worked as both a starter and reliever throughout his career, faced an uphill battle when it came to making the Brewers' Opening Day roster, but if he continued to find the same success that he did in the KBO down in Triple-A to start the season, there was a real chance that Garabito would have impacted the big-league roster at some point during the 2026 campaign.

Four months from now is June 21, meaning, in the best case scenario, Garabito will be back on a mound prior to the All-Star break, but in terms of being ready for big-league opponents, it might not be until late July or early August. There will be many more factors that will be at play in terms of the Brewers' roster decisions at that point in the season, but if injuries pop up on the big league roster and Garabito is impressing in the minor leagues, it's not out of the question that the former Ranger could eventually join the major league club.
