The Milwaukee Brewers continue to shake things up with their pitching staff by making another roster move just two days after promoting Bryan Hudson back to the major league roster. This time, 2024 breakout star Tobias Myers has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville and is being replaced by right-handed relief pitcher Elvis Peguero.

Myers’ demotion should come as a bit of a surprise for Brewers fans. Yes, Myers hasn't looked as sharp as he did a season ago so far in 2025, but he's only made four starts since missing the beginning of the season with a left oblique strain. Moreover, his last two starts have been especially encouraging, pitching a total of 9.1 innings and allowing just three earned runs. The strikeout numbers have been down for Myers, and some early-season shaky command even led to a "benching" during one of his starts, but he's managed to pitch to a very respectable 3.86 ERA in 2025.

Meanwhile, Peguero rejoins the team after spending a month in Triple-A. His high 5.68 ERA that he posted in his first stint with the major league team was due to one bad outing in the home opener against the Kansas City Royals, in which he allowed four earned runs in just 1.1 innings. He's pitched well in his seven appearances for the Nashville Sounds, posting a 2.25 ERA with the Brewers Triple-A affiliate.

Tobias Myers' demotion makes Brandon Woodruff's spot in the rotation much clearer

With the Brewers swapping a starter for a reliever in today's roster move, they currently hold just four true starting pitchers on their active roster: Freddy Peralta, José Quintana, Quinn Priester, and Chad Patrick. However, all that will change when the Brewers inevitably re-activate Brandon Woodruff to the major league roster at some point in the next two days.

Woodruff's rehab assignment is set to expire on Tuesday, meaning the Brewers have to place him on the active 26-man roster before then. Prior to today's roster move, it wasn't clear who Woodruff would be replacing in the starting rotation, with some fans speculating that Priester would be the one to receive the demotion. However, with Myers now in Triple-A, it's clear that Woodruff will be taking over his spot in the rotation for at least one cycle.

Myers' spot was scheduled to come up again on Friday night's home matchup against the Minnesota Twins, after he made the start in yesterday afternoon's contest against the Tampa Bay Rays. This means that Brewers fans can tentatively expect to see their former ace, Woodruff, back on a big league mound for the first time in over a year, when the Brewers open up their series against the Twins this Friday.
