Brewers' Minor League Player of the Year update showcases ridiculous talent in farm system

Each year, the Milwaukee Brewers dish out the Robin Yount Performance Awards, which recognize the top position player and pitcher in the organization’s minor-league system. Usually, the announcement comes without any build-up on a date in late September. Last year, shortstop Jesús Made and starting pitcher Tyson Hardin were the respective winners.

This year, however, the Brewers are taking a new approach by announcing finalists for the honors before officially handing out the awards. It's something the organization has never done before, and is perhaps the ultimate flex when it comes to showcasing the depth of its farm system.

10 Milwaukee Brewers prospects recognized as finalists for Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year awards

As shown in the graphic below from MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, 10 Brewers prospects have been named finalists for the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year awards. Seven position players are in contention for the Player of the Year honor, while four pitchers are vying for Pitcher of the Year.

Of the position players, five finished the season with the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, who fell just short of the Southern League title on Wednesday night. That group includes Josh Adamczewski, who hit 19 home runs and posted a .906 OPS, Jesus Made, who finished with 14 home runs, 91 RBIs and 37 stolen bases, and Andrew Fischer, who clobbered 50 home runs on the season, the most by any minor leaguer in the 21st century, surpassing Ryan Howard’s 46 in 2004. The group also features two late additions to the Shuckers' 2026 squad in Braylon Payne, who hit 28 home runs between High-A and Double-A this year, and Eric Bitonti, who added 25 homers of his own this season.

Meanwhile, Southern League MVP Blake Burke showcased his power by hitting 34 home runs across the Double-A and Triple-A levels with an excellent .888 OPS, while Brady Ebel displayed an extremely well-balanced game and advanced approach at the plate as evidenced by a season where he drew 105 walks, had a .413 on-base percentage, and stole 40 bases.

On the pitching side of things, Tyson Hardin continued to rise through the organization, reaching Triple-A Nashville, but saw some ups and downs while pitching to a 4.58 ERA over 90.1 innings. Josh Knoth made an impressive return from Tommy John surgery, posting a 4.11 ERA with 87 strikeouts over 87.2 innings.

Manuel Rodríguez delivered a standout season at Double-A Biloxi, going 13-4 with a 3.79 ERA and 115 strikeouts over 133 innings while setting a Shuckers single-season record with 13 wins. Meanwhile, left-hander Wande Torres emerged as a dominant force at High-A Wisconsin, going 9-5 with a 4.15 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 115 innings before earning a late-season promotion to Biloxi.

Regardless of who ultimately takes home the awards, the Brewers naming this many finalists is a statement of how good and deep their farm system is. It also shows that the Brewers aren't relying on one or two standout prospects, but have built a system capable of producing talent for many years to come.
